Bed leveling Failed: Sensor didnt trigger

I was wondering if anyone could offer some assistance. Things were going along just fine until recently the printer moves to the third point on Auto Leveling and then gives an error Sensor didn't trigger. It reaches that point, starts to come down to check and then stops and gives the error.

Any suggestions? (I searched through the topics and nothing seems like what I have. The extruder doesn't press into the bed. It comes down a bit like the normal check and just stops.)

Thanks

John

Hello John!

Have you tried if the sensor triggers manually at that point (put a flat screwdriver near the PINDA sensor and see if it reacts) ?

If it triggers - then the PINDA sensor is probably mounted too high.

Re: Bed leveling Failed: Sensor didnt trigger

if it triggers hold the test metal / screw driver still. and wiggle the cable bundle from side to side, the led should not go out...

there is an end stop test on the lcd menu, this should show a response when you put metal near the pinda, but wilst the metal is near te pinda, wiggling the cable bundle behind the extruder should not cause the display to change

if it does, you probably have a stress / flexing break in the pinda cable.

Re: Bed leveling Failed: Sensor didnt trigger

I got this auto leveling error on the second spot on my Mk2 in November 2017 after many good prints, for no apparent reason.
It turned out to be misaligned z axis stepper motors. I had previously done the stepper synchronization by driving the z against the upper stop, and I figured it was fine.
After reading this forum for ideas, I did it again and the two sides were a lot out of synch. As soon as I did this, the test worked and it printed fine.
I don't know how it got out of sync, but I must have moved the frame and did not notice anything different.
So the forum saved the day.

Re: Bed leveling Failed: Sensor didnt trigger

I just had the same issue on the third point. I did as gerryw suggested and took the extruder up to the bump stops and the issue was resolved

Thanks Gerry

Had the same issue on my new MK3 and ran the "calibrate Z" under the calibration menu. It was clear that the 2 Z's were maybe a 1/4 turn out of sync. Works just fine again. 😎

Re: Bed leveling Failed: Sensor didnt trigger

Same thing here... After weeks of a lot of printing without issues my MK2S this morning didn't mesh calibrate anymore.
After looking on the web I found this topic.

When looking at the X-axis it was immediately clear that it wasn't level anymore.
It's somewhat weird, as I printed with the printer yesterday without any issue and the axis was off by several mm.
(Must've been stuck on something while the head was descending or something)

Anyway I just re-ran the Z calibration, all's fine again.
A bit ashamed I didn't see this myself, but I'm definitely glad I found this topic and that it's not a hardware issue. Thanks!

Re: Bed leveling Failed: Sensor didnt trigger

Just to jump on the dogpile I'm grateful for finding this thread. I had the same issue after 3 really good prints all of a sudden it couldn't trigger the sensor on point 3. Z axis calibration fixed it and as with others for some reason my left z axis was clearly lower than the right. Fixed calibration issue.

And another big "Thank You!" comes rolling in... The Z calibration worked like a charm. I was ready to dismantle the whole extruder head assembly and follow wires to figure out what was wrong. Running the Z Calibration was much simpler and solved the problem. Thanks to all who suggested it! 🙂

The Z-calibration fixed this for me as well. I was figuring that this was going to be a big issue, but thanks to this forum, it was a very simple fix.

Re: Bed leveling Failed: Sensor didnt trigger

Put the kit together two days ago, printed a couple of things, worked very well and then I get this error. I didn’t do anything in the meantime. But a z calibration fixed it indeed.

Thanks,
Arthur

Re: Bed leveling Failed: Sensor didnt trigger

I just had the same issue with point #3 ran the z calibration in pcd menu and cleared right up. One post was a hair off and even running the Prusa self test didn't find it.
