Yes, but I am not going to admit it... 😮
That part would appear to be a small block designed to prevent the Y motor and mount twisting when the belt is tightened. Something I noticed during the build and mentioned to support.
Having said that, my Mk2 has been working for some time without that part with no problems...

Re: additional part for Y-axis motor
Did anyone else notice that the LCD holders on his have slots in them to run the zipties through? These are also not available on the github site.
Re: additional part for Y-axis motor
It seems Tom must have received the MK2.1. 😉
Re: additional part for Y-axis motor
The new style LCD Support parts are in the MK2 SCAD folder on GitHub... I downloaded them and converted them to STL and they look like they should print OK... I don't have an enclosure so am nervous of printing in ABS as the printer is in my Sitting Room which is not draught free or a good place for fumes!
The extra Y-Motor piece seems to only be on the Pre-Built one that Tom received...
I hope Josef doesn't mind but I've attached a zip containing the converted STL files for the New LCD Supports...

They look good.
I received my kit Tuesday, and it included the new style supports. I'm surprised the STL's linked off here http://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/ are not yet updated. These STL files don't include the new Y-belt holder either.

Re: additional part for Y-axis motor
What's the new Y-belt Holder look like now John? Any chance of a picture? Are we talking about that new bit behind the Y-Motor or another bit?
I suspect that all at Prusa are very busy gearing up for this teased new Colour Printing Upgrade that Josef keeps posting about! Maybe once that's launched they will have the time to update GitHub...

It looks the same, just strengthened internally. It's shown on the new Blog post, the photo just below the photo of the printer farm.

Re: additional part for Y-axis motor
I too found this piece missing from the STL zip file a couple of months ago. I did talk to support about it and they had no clue. Fortunately I remade it using a good set of calipers. You can find it in my TinkerCAD profile.
One note: I have not tried printing this to see how accurate the dimensions are.
and an 8 inch (200mm) or greater caliper is recommended.

So your pre-assembled printer came with this part? It isn't in the kit I received last week. I wonder if they felt it was only useful on the pre-assembled machines? Otherwise, I'm surprised it isn't included, nor referenced in the assembly instructions.

Re: additional part for Y-axis motor
Looking at the video, it seems the kits he received don't have this part either.
I'm already using an equivalent for some times, coming from this thing: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:107062
The little hook version is pretty easy to use, as you can insert it on a built printer, as oppose to the one we can see on the video, which seems to be inserted on the threaded rodes.
I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.
Re: additional part for Y-axis motor
I looked at a couple of other YouTube unboxing videos and they had this extra Y-Motor Brace as well and one of them was from 18th August, so it's not a very new addition, but it only seems to be on pre-assembled models. I think this is something we are going to have to ask Josef about if the support staff haven't been updated on it... May be it's just been found to help the printer survive transit better? I know the transit clips are printed in green but maybe they felt because of it's location it would be better to make it a permanent part as it doesn't interfere with the working of the printer (and can in fact help)...

Hi 3Dlight,
I have the same "problem" and i talked to support and they say its fine the print the parts in PETG heat wise, even the extruder parts. I went on #reprap and they confirmed that even pla should work on all parts but the extruder. So im now doing replacement prints of the parts.
The thing support could not tell me how much infill is needed in the PETG parts. for ABS they use 25%. I printed a delicate part (y-motor holder) with 10 % and it broke. but 25 could be fine for safety i will stick with 40% i think...
Any other recommendations for infill for the printer parts ?
I unfortunatelly had a y-layer shift when thats sorted i will beginn printing the new part 🙂

Interesting. Seems easy enough to add.

Infill percentages should not vary too much between ABS and PETG. I look at the model in preview mode and try to determine if I think there is enough support. If you have the additional time available to add more support (in the 40%) range, no reason not to, for these sorts of parts, in my opinion.

Hello Christophe,
I made a simple design, just a block with the thread-holes and added some small holes for zip ties:
Here is the result:

More stability seems always a good idea but as the y motor rotates in both directions, will the forces not cancel each other out ? -> rods do'nt get bend because the equal each other ?

The picture is not how the brace was intended to be used. The brace is intended to brace the Y-axis motor away from the threaded rods. It does not need zip ties to fasten it against the threaded rods. The stepper motor holds it against the threaded rods because of the belt tension.
Take a closer look at my design. The cut-out section away from the threaded rods is to house the wires from the stepper motor.

Hi
Thanks for clarifying! So i have to mount it on the other side. However i do not understand your comment about the cables in your mount. Could you post a picture to make it clear to me, how it is supposed to be mounted ?
Thanks
Re: additional part for Y-axis motor
Here are the pictures that I took for PR support:
Note how it lines up with the left edge of the stepper motor
Here is the view from the rear:
Here is the view from the top:
You should also see how the motor is slightly angled towards this brace. This is partly why the brace exists and how it is held in place.
