Upgrade to Bondtech mini extruders?
This is just an educated guess, and it will make the kit a lot more expensive, but would it be a possibility to replace the current feeding system on the top of the frame with one using Bondtech mini extruders?

The advantage to me (it seems) is that they actually pull the filament from both sides, and not simply from one side while the filament is being pushed from the other side using some hard to finetune idler system.
It would require changing the e-step value. Don't know if that's easy to do without recompiling the firmware?
Re: Upgrade to Bondtech mini extruders?
That "upgrade" uses the same drive gears as the Prusa MMU: http://shop.bondtech.se/ec/drivegears/drivegear-kit-175-direct.html

Re: Upgrade to Bondtech mini extruders?
Yes I know, but if I understand it correctly in our case only 1 is actually driven by the motor, and in the case of the Bondtech mini both are.

They are both driven by the motor, because they are geared together...

Re: Upgrade to Bondtech mini extruders?
Yes, that's my point. You'll get pulling on both sides of the filament.
Re: Upgrade to Bondtech mini extruders?
This is used on MMU upgrade 😉
Re: Upgrade to Bondtech mini extruders?
The Bondtech drive pulleys on the MMU (as previously linked) have gears which connect them and they are both driven by the motor (one directly, the other indirectly).
The fact that the filament drive on the MMU required the additional torque is the only reason why there was a change from a single drive pulley to the Bondtech dual drive.
