Printing with Diamond hotend
Hello everyone,
I have been reading a lot the last few days before deciding to "take my chances" and purchasing the MK3 MMU. Optimistic by nature I guess 🙂
Anyway, I started tinkering a bit and I am wondering: has anyone try to combine the MMU steppers with the diamond hotend?
Do you think it is even possible with the Slic3r control as one will need to decrease retraction to ~0...
Thanks,
The NewGuy
Re: Printing with Diamond hotend
I think It's possible.
You will need to change the extruder change g-code in slic3r (remove almost all the lines) but that's it.
The main advantage is to reduce the waste tower footprint, and less jamming problems (if you have any from the mmu).
The main inconvenient is that you must have all filaments engaged in the hot-end to print (and design/print a new extruder carriage).
If you want the full color( 5 entries), you have to close one or tinker with your printer to add one more extruder (maybe chaining the extender board is possible?)
Re: Printing with Diamond hotend
The current version of Slic3r PE is not able to generate a Smart Wipe Tower for a Diamond hotend printer. See https://github.com/prusa3d/Slic3r/issues/718 . If you don't need a Smart Wipe Tower, it should be possible.
Re: Printing with Diamond hotend
No. With MMU stepper switch, you can only drive 1 extruder motor at a time.

Hello all,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my post.
My idea was using only 3 colors (at least for now) and much smaller prime tower. After tinkering it some more it may be doable using Cura. Not sure, will have to test and report back once I have the MMU in hand I guess... 🙂

Re: Printing with Diamond hotend
Cura doesn't generate a wipe tower for more than two colors. Looking at icesl at the moment.
