Considering PLA

I've been printing a lot of things in ABS and now i am considering to start trying out with pla. Surely enough i like abs due to its usage for parts and accuracy, but I still got this feeling of not wanting to go for pla for these 2 main reasons; Higher tolerance needed and famous jamming issues on all metal e3d v6 heatbreak.

The thing with abs is that it tends to peel off from the pei sheet and this also makes it a bit hard to understand the z offset for nozzle and the surface as too close to it, it won't stick, too high it will peel off.

Any advice? I tend to go for cheap filaments and my printer is mk2mmu with the all metal chinese heatbreak

Re: Considering PLA

I quit using PLA some time ago. I loved it when I started but as I gained more experience setting the Z-Height right as the print starts, ABS became my filament of choice. I rarely even clean the PEI now that I've gotten the hang of setting the Z- Height. My problem with PLA is that it deforms (I didn't say melts) at such a low temperature that it's useless for many of my print needs, especially anything that will be in a warm environment such as a car. Plus I like that you can bond ABS to itself with acetone.

I never had an issue with PEI jamming the extruder but maybe I was lucky. I found it was very easy to print with. Try it, you might like it.

From what I know pla are famous for getting jammed with the metal heatbreak. Before I got my mmu, I tried printing with 2 different pla, both are same brand which are generic, but still. same batch (the spool design) but different colour; black and blue.

I printed a low poly mask with the black which took me a solid 24 hours to complete and it was a success. Tried with other object on blue colour, I got some jamming. 🙁
