Filament stuck in extruder (clogged/jammed)

Hello forum members,

What's the first move to get this printer going again? It was printing fine for the first 6 hours of a 9 hour print. I wasn't monitoring it and when I got back it had finished but hadn't printed any plastic the last 1/4 of the model. From what I can tell the filament is stuck somewhere between the cooling and the hotend. I can move it a bit up and down, but it is stuck and can't be pulled out. Don't know what to do.

It was a single color print done with Prusa slic3r and its single color mode configuration profile.

Grateful for any tips or hints

Re: Filament stuck in extruder (clogged/jammed)

As it's moving up/down a little, it is likely that the PTFE is not locked in place, so you may have to disassemble to replace that correctly.

To remove the filament, you could try removing the extruder (side) fan, heat the extruder to 230 degrees (PLA), wait for a few minutes, push down on the filament until it starts to move then quickly pull it out when it does move down. But don't keep the extruder hot without the fan for more than 10 minutes and don't try to replace the fan when it's spinning - you will break the blades...

If that doesn't work, you will probably have to take it all apart.

Thanks for the reply! I will try to heat it up without the fan.

Got it working! 😀

As far as I could tell, the tube is firmly attached.

Pulled the filament out easily when the extruder heat sink started warming up. No problem!

😯 We'll save that for another day 🙂

Many thanks PJR!
