Driver only loads on computer restart
I'm trying to solve an annoying problem where my Mac doesn't recognize the printer UNLESS it is powered and connected when the computer boots. So once the computer is on, if I unplug and replug the printer, it will no longer be recognized. This is a problem for me because I can't leave the printer plugged in all the time, and I rarely restart my computer.
I know the printer is fine, it works fine with an SD card and through Microsoft Windows... the problem is only with my Mac.
If someone can please help me get the OS X to recognize my printer without restarting my computer, that would be great. I'm running OS X 10.13 (High Sierra). Thanks.
PS: I hope I'm in the right place... my printer was sold to me as a "Prusa I3 EG-1" so I'm not sure of the exact model.
RE: Driver only loads on computer restart
Ok, so it's definitely a problem with Apple's FTDI driver that comes with the OS... because by installing the driver from FTDIChip, the printer is recognized properly when plugging/unplugging. However, it took manually unloading Apple's driver from the terminal using "sudo kextunload"... so I am now searching for a way to remove Apple's driver entirely from /System/Library/Extensions/ because it seems heavily protected.
RE: Driver only loads on computer restart
Uninstalling the driver did not help me, unfortunately. I had a problem with another model, but the fact remains. There really are difficulties with the Mac. Hope it helps you. I asked a friend to remove and install drivers. Now I can’t say for sure what else can help.
