XYZ calibration failure, hotend digging into printbed

Hi,

I have a mk 2s (firmware version 3.1.0) that is about 14 months old. It had been working fine, but suddenly it just started failing prints. I tried recalibrating and it dug the hotend into the buildplate at point 2 of the initial 4 point calibration on the calibrate xyz routine.

I thought maybe my pinda probe is bad, but it seems to pass the screwdriver test, it shows a 1 when i hold a screwdriver under the pinda, even when wiggling the wire. I tried more mesh leveling and calibrations, and it did the same thing on the third interval of trying the first 4 points this time, again digging in on point 2. I noticed it dug in about an inch (2.5cm) to the left of where it dug in the previous time. Seems like it was looking in the wrong place with the sensor. I noticed where it dug in the first time was about 1/2" off from where it should have been if it were over the sensor point, so I suppose it was looking in the wrong place then too.

Any ideas of what to try?

the probe wire looks good, connections to the board look fine, board is reading the probe fine, belts are tight/ not slipping, all the frame bolts seem fine, frame looks square... I just don't know what else to check.

Thanks!

Ok, Update:

I am dumb. The culprit appears to have been a loose set screw on the X axis motor. The belt was tight, but the pulley moving it was loose. Moral of the story, I should have done the self test as soon as i started troubleshooting.
