Skirt settings Q!!!

On my other printer I typically use a skirt one layer high with two outlines. I arrived at that through trial and error. Usually by the time the second skirt had been printed my filament flow was stable.

On my MK3S I'm starting with the profiles built into Slic3r PE. One of the things I noticed different is the skirt default is one loop, but three layers high. What advantage is there in printing extra skirt layers?

I went through essentially the same process starting out. I've read that a higher skirt can protect against cooling breezes, which may be more critical with warp-prone materials. If you're printing with particularly thin layer heights, additional layers may make the skirt easier to remove. In practice, I've not found it makes any difference in my prints, so I just go with a 1 line skirt 1 layer high.

RE: Skirt settings Q!!!

I came here looking for the same answer.  Skirts are often at the edge of the printable surface and prone to defects.  I have ZERO understanding why you would make the height '3' as a standard, versus as the OP says, a  few wrap arounds to get flow going.  I really wish that PRUSA would take the three down to one.  A 0.6 draft shield is daft....

Hmmmm ... I had not noticed that the skirt height in PS is set to three layers, and I have no clue why that would be desirable.  I just reset it to 1.

I also checked Cura and it does not give the option for multiple skirt layers, but does have a number of loops setting.  Cura (at least the version I started with) defaults to brim, and I have to be careful when resetting things to watch that.  😉
