Running the StoneFlower on the i3 MK2/S

Hello!

I have recently aquired the StoneFlower, which is a print head which extrudes a clay paste rather than a heated plastic filament.
I have replaced the Prusa's hotend printer head with the StoneFlower, so the StoneFlower is plugged into the motherboard's E0 pins
However, I do not need to heat the bed and the StoneFlower does not have a hotend in it, so there's no use in measuring or setting a temperature.

I have tried to print a .gcode with the temperature set to 0C, and set the temperature to 0C on the printer, but when I start the print the Prusa shows up a "Heating...." message which takes a while, then cancels the print.

I am not a programmer, but I have tried changing the minimum/maximum temperatures in the firmware, to no avail.

I suspect that I'd have to take a whole chunk out of the firmware's code, but I don't know where to start.

So my question is: does anybody know how I can circumvent or work around this?

Basically, I want the printer to stop worrying about the temperature and to just print, haha.

Hoping you can help and thanking you in advance,

Chris

Hi Chris,
you could connect a 100kohm potentiometer across the thermistor leads( instead of the thermistor
), and dial in any temperature you like!

attach one wire to the end connector on the potentiometer and the other wire to both the wiper and the other end connector...

insulate all connections

it's a Cludge, but it will probably give the results you are looking for!

regards Joan

Did you get it up and running yet? I also have this kit. How did you install this? I'm talking to the creator which he suggested to solder it or if your printer support dual Extrusion you can use one of those slots for this. I also don't have the mount.

Hi Dominick,

I removed the original hotend printer head and designed+printed a custom head to hold the Stoneflower.
Here are my files:
Back
Front
I've replaced the hotend thermistor, so no MINTEMP ERROR anymore, but I still haven't managed to make it work beyond a few layers... I've still got a PREHEAT ERROR which is probably due to my removal of the fans.

Joan, I have received a potentiometer as per your recommendation, but I haven't tried it yet. Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you for providing me with the stl files. I'm curious to know how you wired the Electronics. I'm wondering if you soldered the wires to the board or if there's a different way and if your using the stock firmware. If you get it up and running I would like to see how you did it.

Any luck? I'm curious to know how you wired this up
