Issues with SD Card
Hi,
So I've been using the MK2 for about two years now and have never had a problem like this - the printer started misreading data from the SD card. Whenever I insert an SD card everything seems fine - the printer sees it, the names are displayed correctly and can be selected. However, when I initiate the preheating procedure the file names within the Print from SD menu either start shifting erratically, disappearing or assuming weird file names after every turn of the rotary encoder. Sometimes after selecting the menu it becomes completely empty although there are files present on the SD card. In all of these cases pressing the selection button of the encoder does nothing, the printer won't acknowledge my input. The only way out from the menu is to restart the printer.
If the preheating procedure was not initiated beforehand the navigation inside the Print from SD menu acts as it should - I can select any file and the printing process starts as usual. However, at some point during printing - usually somewhere in the very beginning - the printer behaving in a way it shouldn't. For example, it can just freeze up and stop printing altogether, or jump to a location where it should not be (I checked the .gcode, the jumps weren't there) and continue printing from that spot, or begin over-extruding to the point of filament breakage due to excessive friction, or move along the x or y axis for a while and then returning to it's starting point without extruding anything.
I tried using different SD cards, different slicing software, updating the firmware - nothing helped. Right now the only way for me to use the MK2 is through a PC running Pronterface which is not ideal. However, this hints that the problem is somehow linked to the printer's SD card reader since the machine still gives out nice prints by using the USB connector.
Lastly, this all started after a "routine" heat bed connector replacement (it gets fried every couple of months), hence the RAMBo had to be removed, the old connectors de-soldered and new ones re-soldered. I think I've attached anything properly, otherwise I'd be getting gibberish text as soon as I turned on the printer and not on one specific menu screen.
So, has anyone encountered a similar problem and if so what was the solution that made everything work properly?
Kind regards,
Gerry
