Hot end fan stopped working

Hi everyone,

I've been using my Original Prusa MK2S for a year now, and out of the blue the hot end fan stopped working. How can I troubleshoot this? I tried googling for this problem, but only found threads for people where it didn't work on assembly, not where it failed after working for a long time.

How can I find out why it's not working?

Thanks,
Ram.

Re: Hot end fan stopped working

chances are, the wiring has broken, just behind the X carriage
turn the printer on, raise the extruder to abut 60mm
use the settings option to set the hotend to 55 centigrade..
(hot enough to trigger the fan, cool enough to do no damage whilst you are fault finding)

when up to temperature, try wiggling the cable bundle behind the extruder, from side to side, and up and down if the fan starts and stops you have found your problem...

as a temporary fix, you can cut the wires for the fan, just behind the extruder carriage and just inside the rambo case, and replace the wires with new ones. perhaps taken from a category 5 patch cord or USB cable.

make sure you get the polarity right, and insulate the joints, then reassemble ensuring the joints are not in the section of cable bundle that flexes, otherwise the joints will break prematurely

make sure that your nylon cable bundle support filament is firmly inserted at both ends, and is not broken

then order a replacement for a permanent fix, later
