Compile Firmware for MK2/S from GitHub - >3.2.3 variant for MK2

Hi, i recently returned to use my 3D Printer, a Prusa i3 MK2S. I would like to upgrade and have some parts already, but since the heated bead is quite expensive and the printer works fine it'll stay as it is. I upgraded to the 3.2.3 firmware from Prusa's repository, but a further inspection for a variant with Bondtech gears (etc.) but without! a MK52 bed (a MK2.25S+ if you will) revealed, that in the MK3 branch in Github in the variants folder there still is a MK2 variants config header file.

Is my perception right, that you can still manually compile a firmware greater/newer than 3.2.3 for the MK2 without any deep changes?

I would like to try the firmware but if anyone else has already tried it or can explain why there still is a MK2 variant but no newer firmware build than 3.2.3 it would be much appreciated.

Well, lo and behold, suddenly the MK2 variant file was moved to an "obsolete" folder inside the variants folder of the firmware repository...

Who would have guessed...

P.S.: I managed to compile and successfully use most features of the MK3S+ firmware (3.10.1) on my MK2S. I upgraded to the MK2.5S (Extruder printed parts, bondtech gears, filament IR sensor, noctua fan...) but left the old MK42 bed installed. It's not perfect yet, but prints. I have filament IR sensor, most new features, the firmware is much speedier to use with the LCD, both fans report their speed with tacho signals. Bed leveling works mostly, XYZ calibration fails due to an error with the points and end stops - yet. Also, still use the old PINDA probe, while the "superPINDA" is selected, works, but maybe in the future I will change to this exotic new sensor.

P.P.S.: I also changed and compiled the 3.2.3 firmware to use the new MK2.5S printhead. You'll loose about 4mm X-axis travel to the left, but thats also the case on the MK2.5/S. Works like a charm.

Hi Wolf82,

A bit off topic, How did you mange to compile firmware 3.2.3? Tried all day yesterday to get it to work. Well it manage to compile with no errors.

But LCD displayed bunch of random letter repeated. Seemed like the firmware works but display got funky. could be because I missed step 3

Fallowed most of the steps. But Step 3 was a bit confusing to me.

# Step 3

Install the arduino addon located in the root of this repo. Don't forget to install correct version!
