After PEI replacement, PINDA no longer recognizing bed but recognizes other metal objects

I changed the PEI on my print bed and the PINDA digs way into the print bed whenever I try to calibrate it - ramming into it and pushing it downward continuously. I've lowered it several times and nothing changes the behavior. However, it is recognizing metal objects that I hold beneath it (status of 1, LED turns off). I also tried moving the X axis around to see if the connection is failing at some point and could not find a problem there. The PEI replacement is from GizmoDorks. Is it just too thick?

If you carefully raise the build plate toward the Pinda, does it change state while in test mode?

Some time ago, I re-skinned a smooth Prusa build plate and the Z calibration did not change.  I got the replacement PEI sheets from Amazon, IIRC, so I'm not sure, or don't remember the exact brand.

Possibly, I don't know the GizmoDorks product but Prusa's PEI is fairly thin at a little over 0.3mm.  Do you have an old sheet to test..?

Since it's an MK2S without a detachable build plate, I don't think I am able to do this test. (Let me know if I'm mistaken!) What I can do is lower the Z to see if the pinda light goes off, and it never does even when it comes in contact with the build plate.

@Diem, Regarding using an old sheet, sadly I replaced the initial build plate covering with this new PEI and discarded it, so I don't have another build plate to test with.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I spoke too soon, I somehow got the impression this was the MK3 series, sorry.

I don't know how PINDAs might degrade rather than failing completely.  I suggest you contact Prusa Support (chat) and ask if it's likely.
