Re: Simplify3D print settings (July 7, 2016)

nice! 😎

I print quite a bit of PETG and noticed some slight differences with your PET file and thought id share (i will upload my FFF soon if anyone is interested). I use the retraction vertical lift (z hop) with PETG to reduce scarring when crossing previous layers and also use a high retraction distance to reduce stringing (2.5mm).

Can you post your Gcode for review?
We use S3d exclusively and I have never seen this before.

Maybe post your STL file as well.

I did find a setting that appears to alleviate the problem, under advanced, if i uncheck "Merge all outlines into a single solid model" it generates as normal.

Though im not sure if its a issue with the model, or just that setting (which im not not exactly sure what its used for)

This is a model issue, I've hade the some problem. You have to repair the stl. I use https://tools3d.azurewebsites.net/ because its simple.

No it isnt model issue (mostly), I had same issues with new profile (even sample STLs didnt work). It is caused by one specific setting that should be IMHO disabled by default.

Disable highlighted setting and it will be fine.

I can agree with that, id say in the next iteration of the settings it might be a good idea to disable that setting by default ( for us noobs like me :P) totally confused me until i found it. 😛

Regarding speed settings,

Is'nt 100% Outline Underspeed and 100% Solid Infill underspeed abit excessive?

What do you use?

Anyone using octopi ?
I having strange delay after the bed calibration.
It wait, like 20seconds before printing.

Here is the logs :
Send: N8 G28 W*108
Recv: ok
Send: N9 G80*24
Recv: 80:ok
Recv: echo:endstops hit: Z:-0.61
Communication timeout while printing, trying to trigger response from printer. Configure long running commands or increase communication timeout if that happens regularly on specific commands or long moves.
Send: N10 M105*22
Recv: ok T:214.7 /215.0 B:55.1 /55.0 T0:214.7 /215.0 @:60 B@:7
Send: N11 M105*23
Recv: ok T:214.7 /215.0 B:55.1 /55.0 T0:214.7 /215.0 @:60 B@:7
Send: N12 M201 X1000 Y1000*18
Recv: ok
Send: N13 G1 Y-3.0 F1000.0*26
Recv: ok
Send: N14 G1 X60.0 E9.0 F1000.0*102
Recv: ok
Send: N15 G1 X100.0 E12.5 F1000.0*111
Recv: ok

The pause (timeout) is between G80 bed leveling and M201 default acceleration.
If I manualy send the command, there is no issue.
Strange.

I wasn't having the problem with the previous starting script :
G28
G92 E0.0
G1 X60.0 E9.0 F1000.0
G1 X100.0 E12.5 F1000.0
G92 E0.0

There is no problem with the printing. Just this strange timeout.

Darknico,

I have noticed this as well since I started using the latest fff file that was posted. Haven't timed the delay but it is definitely excessive.

You need to add G80 to the "long running commands" list. Go to settings/serial/advanced options. Here's mine:

G4, G28, G29, G30, G32, M400, M226, M600, M80

Thx peter.
I understand now how the previous start script was working, G28 is already in the list.
I see you've added M600 as well, It's needed for color changing right ?

Re: Simplify3D print settings (July 7, 2016)

The M600 was simply "playing safe". I think the firmware does communicate with the Pi during a filament change, whether it be initiated from the GCode or the front panel.

Brilliant! Great to have you guys by my side ... Lets see if the new setting works or is it S3D related problem.

Thank you!

So far I've tried the Simplify3D settings with PLA and for PETG. Both work very very well. I love this printer and I appreciate the documentation and ongoing support you're providing.

I also want to thank you for the amazing dragon gcode. In three years of using a variety of 3D printers I have never produced a better print than this one. It's a real showpiece and a testament to the excellence of your printer.

Re: Simplify3D print settings (July 14, 2016)

I've just purchased S3D and out of all of the slicers I've used, it is by far the best. BIG thank you to Josef for working so hard to improve the support profiles for the Mk2 in S3D, and I hope the improvements continue.

Even though I'm still working out kinks in mine, the Mk2 sets somewhat of a new standard in capabilities I feel, and I think inferior slicers are holding the printer back for many people.

Thanks again, Josef!
