I'm kind of shocked and appalled at the shipping cost of the upgrade kit - effectively adds 40% to the price.

I get that using UPS is quick and reliable (and the best option for the printers and full kits) but for parts like the mk2- mk2s upgrade bits then i think a cheaper option (standard tracked mail ?) really should be available - adding 40% to something to ship it is a lot.

I would like to see a comparison in noise level between the old bearings & rods and the MK2S bearings & rods. 80 euros with shipping is quite a lot if the difference is more like marginal.

Printed parts upgrade is great though!

Some customers have contacted support and said the new printed parts will now be included.
Hmmm, I ordered the printed parts on top of the upgrade kit (as separate articles).

I think Prusa needs a US reseller for the upgrade kit. People will gladly pay $60 or $70 for it as it's still cheaper than shipping from Prusa. Even better, sell it on Amazon...

The Mk2S assembly instructions list the U-bolts as being 3x20x16. I took a quick look to see if I could find a US source for these bolts. I wasn't able to find anything in the few minutes I spent looking. Most US distributors have a smaller selection of metric parts, and I couldn't find any U-bolts this lightweight. On the other hand, 3mm threaded rod was easy to find (Grainger, for instance) and inexpensive. With a welding torch and a jig it probably wouldn't be too hard to heat a 3mm rod and bend it into the correct U shape. I'd probably also grind the threads off of where it would contact the bearing so it didn't bite into the bearing.

Thank you, I also tried to find the source for similar from china webs but unable to find any, only m6 the smallest out there. I live to the south of china and don't think I can find the u-bolts/screws so easily 🙁 , Not to mention handling tools like that as well

The Upgrade Kit page in the estore says "If you have already upgraded the bearings and smooth rods on your MK2, you can just order the U-bolts set in replacement parts section which is faster to ship and cheaper option." but the U-bolts are no where to be found by either myself or the Prusa Customer Support person I chatted with. Customer service had only a guess as to availability [sometime next week ;-}] and no idea what price and shipping to the US might be.

Note that McMaster has 3mm rods in three flavors of stainless in 1, 2, or 3ft lengths, with the 3ft lengths starting a little under $5. 3ft should be enough for about 10 mistakes and 3 U-Bolts. I would cut the rod to length [see mistakes 1 thru 3] then thread each end [mistakes 4 thru 5] and then cold form the rod over a 15mm bolt in the vice [mistake 6] and end up with a process to get as many good ones as I need. That small a rod will cold form easily and avoids the discoloration associated with heat forming. And threading will be much easier when the rod is straight than after it has been formed into a U shape.

Support told me only the black electronics print part is included with the kit - the rest need to be ordered separately

What I saw someone else post was that the u-bolts allow a bit more slack if things are not aligned well (think self-aligning to a degree with the u-bolts). I am thinking about using the clamps from thingverse or remixing them a bit, but hopefully I can get things aligned rather well.

I wouldn't recommend to use either one of them. I tried the one from martin, and gone through the trouble thrice in my y axis, including putting in the squaring tool as well.

In the end, the brackets, made my y axis unable to trigger the y endstop. I had to slightly force the side with single bearing with my hand to trigger the y endstop to test it out. In the end, it is due to the 2 bearings side, the bearings was too far apart.

In the manual, it is required for you to let them sit closer as you tighten the ziptie/u-bolts.

The reason the bearings was far apart because there was a bit of groove in the printed bearing holders, forcing the bearing to sit in the center of the bearing slot.

Wouldn't this just the same like Martin's lm8uu bearing so to speak? It is just that we got to have a simpler and shorter clamp design. Maybe I will design one that will only need the screw and nuts to hold the printed clamp.

I'll try one design on thingiverse and also will put the link here for you guys to try first 🙂

Boy, that was close.

Good thing "This product is no longer in stock" otherwise I would have had to think real hard about buying a $6.85 item and then paying $33.00 to have it shipped to the US. 😀

Hopefully "it is no longer in stock" because they are rethinking their pricing and shipping policies for stuff that could easily go in the mail. Based on the [lack of] speed that UPS showed with getting my printer here via air freight the mail would certainly not be any slower.

Hi everybody,

Has anyone who ordered the upgrade kit got their shipping notification? I ordered it the day it was made available in the store and I haven't seen a sign of anything yet (supposed to start Apr 3rd).

Maybe there is a delay I missed or something. Just curious.
