I don't use Cura V2 for various reasons, but is it difficult to add material profiles yourself?

I tried just changing "Ultimaker" to "Prusa i3 Mk2" in Machine, but it doesn't work, so it is not hard if you know what you are doing, but I have no idea what I'm doing and just changing machine doesn't work.

So, how to get attention of Prusa and Ultimaker regarding this REALLY MAYOR issue?

Unless Josef Prusa himself wrote the machine profile.. and the material profiles... i ain't using cura. I don't trust the startup / teardown gcode signatures. No way. Run your hot head into your bed.

When I start printing, there were no profiles, except those which I wrote for myself.

And I haven't found many models which print best using the "default profiles".

Every printer is different, working in different environments and using different filaments. How can a "default profile" produce a great print?

The only way to do that is to learn (mainly by trial and error) and create/amend/tweak profiles so that you you get printed what you want to print.

Has anyone here tried the Cura 2.4 BETA?

I'm about to, but slightly afraid 😛

So far I noticed that the start GCODE has the extruder home first, and then heat up, which leads to it sitting right on the bed for the 2-3 minutes it takes to get up to temp.
Didn't like that, but was easy to change.

Does anyone else have any experience with it?

Huray! I now have access to the forum too! 😀

I was trying Cura (V2.3.1) because Slic3r made a mess of placing supports (supports starting in mid-air? 😯 ). The supports Cura calculated seemed better than Slic3r. But is it only my impression that I have to crank up the extrusion flowrate to get the same adhesion as with Slic3r? After printing a thin cylindrical shape with a wall thickness of 0.5, I could tear the inner wall of the outer wall; the outer and inner wall didn't fuse together. At 110% flowrate I have the feeling it now extrudes correctly.

I also noticed various differences between slic3r, cura and S3d, not just in the extrusion flow. So yeah, I'm not at all surprised, but also check your Z level.

did anyone try the latest Cura?

I have tried it and faced the worst Z calibration ignore ever, which stabbed my PEI n stuff.

Anybody using it and know any tips to get it working?

Hi,

I have been working with Cura 2.6 with the Prusa i3 MK2s and ran my (hot)nozzle into the Bed (the Bed now has severe markings). I haven't been able to reproduce this behaviour. However if i use Cura 2.6 as slicer for my Prusa, there is a high chance of the nozzel clogging. I have been using fairly standard settings.
I also observed, that with Cura 2.6 no temperature test is performed before a print.

/edit: Bottom line; I highly recommend using Slic3r with the Prusa. However I will keep using Cura for my Ultimaker 2+.

That's just the start gcode being different. Open 'manage printers', select the MK2, click 'Machine settings'. Then in start GCode, paste the following:


G21 ; set units to millimeters
G90 ; use absolute positioning
M82 ; absolute extrusion mode
M104 S{material_print_temperature} ; set extruder temp
M140 S{material_bed_temperature} ; set bed temp
M190 S{material_bed_temperature} ; wait for bed temp

G28 W ; home all without mesh bed level
G80 ; mesh bed leveling
G92 E0.0 ; reset extruder distance position
G1 Y-3.0 F1000.0 ; go outside print area

G1 X100.0 E21.5 F1000.0 ; intro line
G92 E0.0 ; reset extruder distance position


Then set the initial layer height to 0.2mm in the print setting. Then it will start prints just like Slic3r does.

Perhaps we should create a pull requests for Cura with this, so it works like this out of the box.

Of course I mean: I just created a pull request to change the starting GCode for the prusa mk2 to work just like it does in Slic3r. See https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/pull/2441 .

And it's been merged. When the next version is released Cura should now start prints the same way as Slic3r does, by first heating the nozzle and print bed, then doing calibration.

anybody got the new Cura 3.1.0 working w. the MK2s?
Especially with the Multi-Material-Kit & 4 Colors?

I know that Cura does seem to cause problems with non-Ultimaker-Printers, at least when using more than one nozzle...

I'm using Cura 3.1.0 and it works good. I have 2 issues though, wondering if someone have noticed. In Cura, I've set cooling fan speed to 20% for HIPS. When printing, I have to tune printer settings again since cooling fan is running at 51%. Seems like the fan setting is not transferred correctly. Same happens to flow control, which I set to 104% in Cura. On printer it is set to 100% and I have to tune it up a little after print starts.

It is not a problem when you know it, but annoying that it happens. Anyone???

I'm using Cura 3.1.0 and it works good
I installed the Version 3.2.1 and i´m unable to print anything with Cura. The gcode looks fine - but no filament is extruding.
Just selected the Prusa MK2 under "other Printers" during the Wizard and let anything per default.

Flow is set to 100% in Cura Settings. If i tune the active print on the Prusa directly and set the flow to 150% the filament comes out. But it is too less or to much because it wont stick to the bed or just blob out. Print with PLA and the default PLA settings in Cura that looks also good.

Does any Prusa user here have some experience with Cura 3.2.1 or the same problem ?

20% of 255 is 51. My guess is one software said "51/255" (20%) and this number got taken as "percent" in the other.

It has taken much trial and error to get me to this point but no amount of guessing can get me any further. The outside of the print is decent but the inside is horrible. Please see the photos, there are all these buggers and it is fragmented. What is the cause and how can I clean it up. The conduit are so bad I an not sure the rods will go in let alone move freely. I have printed a spitfire Mk XVI, the files were included with my printer(Prusa i3 MK2s), and it is lovely and clean inside and out so I know it can be done, just need to learn how to get there. I have purchased several models from 3DLabPrint and want to do several more but I must get a better print quality before I can even print the planes I have now. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Efrem
