MK 2.25

I had purchased the original MMU upgrade close to when it first came out last year. After many months of frustration I tore down the printer, removed MMU and used a set of the bondtech gears along with all the MK2.5 Extruder / XAxis parts. Things seem to be working well thus far, I don't really need the new bed, I have the MK3 and the bed rocks but I can't justify the full upgrade purchase to 2.5 right now. Anyone know if you can purchase just the new pinda and filament sensor from Prusa directly yet? Didn't see it on the store. If not are there any third parties selling comparable units? Looked at the filament sensor schematics, I can just build that myself if need be, the pinda probe with temp sensor I have no idea on though.

Thanks

Re: MK 2.25

Once my Mk3 had actually shipped I gained access to a lot of additional part categories within the Prusa store. They are only accessible while I'm logged in. Have you tried looking at the store while signed in to your account? The categories include Mk2s Mk2MMU and Mk3. The Mk3 category includes PINDA2 Probes and Filament sensors. Although, I have seen the stock status vary. You may encounter an issue sourcing the actual laser chip for the filament sensor. One of the India companies, which is cloning the Mk2s, indicates they plan to offer a PINDA2 clone later this month, however I have no idea how close it's performance will be to the original PINDA. You may also have an issue with using the PINDA2 Prusa or clone without also having the new firmware to handle the temperature correction. I haven't not fully verified, but I believe the actual temperature correction is occurring in the firmware.

Thanks, didn't realize this fact. Once signed in I can see the items, unfortunately the filament sensor is "out of stock" though. Wonder if it's due to all the reports on the forums of shorting / heat / smoke etc.. Anyways, appreciate the tip, thanks again.

Hi!
Did you have to change something in firmware after that downgrade?
Of course after flashing to mk2s firmware. E-steps or something?

i don't see a use for the bondtech either.... might as well just leave it as is. the bed and pinda are the only good things IMO.

Re: MK 2.25

I did use the bondtech pulleys, I haven't had any issues on my MK3 with them so I figured why not, they seem to be working great.

As for changes, I did recalculate the esteps and save them to the eeprom. I do this every so often anyways so not too much of an 'extra' step. All said and done, was it worth it? Compared to multi-material the printer is now very reliable and I dont' have to spend 30 minutes fiddling with stuff to get a print going or when changing filaments, so to me it's totally worth it. I feel a little ripped off with the multi-material upgrade, especially since a new one is coming out shortly which should ( hopefully ) fix the problems acknowledged by Prusa. However such is life, I wont be jumping on board with the new multi material until I see a bunch of honest reviews on it but I'm now happy with what I got. On the plus side, have a bunch of extra hardware, at this point it'd be monetarily trivial to throw together a hypercube or other diy printer with the extra hotend, motors, pulleys, etc... Probably a very soon upcoming project for me 🙂
