Why filament advance after filament color change?

When you have a color change and after answering No a couple of times as to if the color change has started extruding the correct color, I then remove the excess filament that was printed during the process. However, then when you confirm that the new color is good, it starts extruding filament again as it moves back to the print area where it left off, leaving me chasing the extruder with pliers to remove the new excess filament before it touches and aheres to the model.

Is there a reason for this or just no one else finds it to be unnecessary and a bit of a pain?

Dont remove the filament at 'yes', just hold it and when the head moves away the pressuring exudate will come away with the load string.

Gravity and thermal expansion.

aka Everything happens for a reason and that reason normally is: physics.

The extra squeeze is precautionary.  When you change the filament the print pauses for your response, as you do filament continues to ooze out of the nozzle, the longer it takes you to respond the longer it oozes, this could result in a void in the nozzle that could create an unpleasant artifact in your print.  To prevent that it extrudes just a little bit of filament to insure no unpleasant artifacts in the print.

The solution is to not remove the filament until after this second extrusion.  You can just leave it be until the head moves and breaks away the extrusion, that's how this change was designed to work, many like me though pull it away with a pair of tweezers to keep detritus off the bed.
