Random pause mid print
Hello all,
I've updated my MK2.5's firmware to 3.5.0 Final last night. When I print with what I had on my SD card (was printing fine prior to updating), the print would randomly pause for a second or two and the display would show "heating..." follow by a "heating complete" then resume the print. The extruder temperature was within +/- 2-3 degrees of the target temperature (printing fluorescent orange) when the pause happens. The pause can trigger back to back without any signs of extruder temperature dropping.
Does anyone have any idea why it's doing that?
Re: Random pause mid print
I had similar unexplained pauses when the filament sensor was unhappy. Nothing on the display to really help me figure out what was happening: just random pauses. Turned off the filament sensor and the printer started working normally. In my case the filament was a medium pigment ivory color.
Re: Random pause mid print
This just started happening to me too (and I guess _could_ have been happening since I upgraded the firmware a few days ago;I have enough confidence in he printer that I don’t really pay much attention to it mid-print any more).
I am printing the 150um benchy from the bundled SD card to test out new filament (bright red flexible filament that it sounds like prints as PLA - and apart from this problem seems to be going pretty well), and the printer is just randomly pausing and ‘heating’ unnessecarily, as you describe.
I’m wondering if it’s really the temperature, or if it’s that the filament sensor is having trouble reading it, that’s what’s causing the printer to pause, and the ‘heating’ message is really just it checking that the temperature is stable to resume.
Re: Random pause mid print
After more unvestigation, what was going wrong in my case was that the extruder gears had come loose. Reseating and tightening the Bondtech gear on the motor shaft solved my problems.
Re: Random pause mid print
I just experienced these pauses again; but no clear explanation. Printer simply stopped moving, temps were fine, filament was fine, sensor was off. My only explanation was a complex 0.05 slice had some bogus move commands or the slice was stopping to wait for overhang cooling.
Mystery at this point.
