Powder coated sheet

I am really, really disappointed about the lack of powder coated sheets for customers that ordered the MK2.5 kit almost a year ago. I only bought this kit so that I could get the textured finish on printed components - the PEI sticker sheet that was sent is of minimal use to me, but I accepted the compromise given that production problems for new products could delay things significantly (and I want to help Prusa Research, as they've been an instrumental force in 3D printing).

It's coming up to a year since many of us placed our MK2.5 upgrade orders, and yet it looks like powder coated sheets have been sent out to new customers for a while now.

I so rarely complain, especially when I appreciate how much Prusa Research have done for the 3D Printing community, but this is such a slap in the face to loyal customers. I can handle delays, accept production problems, but to prioritise new customers over people that purchased and paid for powder coated sheets almost a year ago doesn't seem in any way fair. It takes our loyalty for granted and makes me question if I would make another purchase, if this is how customers are treated.

Does anyone know when we can finally get our hands on a product we thought we had purchased a year ago?

Re: Powder coated sheet

Same here. I'm still waiting to obtain the mythical powder coated sheet promised with the Mk3 I ordered 24 hours after it went on sale, as well as the one for the Mk2.5 kit I ordered on the day it was offered to preorder. Meanwhile orders from a few weeks ago are shipping daily with them included.

Whatever enthusiasm i had a year ago for this product has long since evaporated, together with much of the satisfaction I had with the Mk3 and the Prusa company. I know there were problems with the coating but it should not take a whole year to be able to supply a coated steel sheet in quantity, especially when that sheet was one of the main selling points of the machine.

Look at the overall picture. Still no powder coated sheets. Fussy filament sensor which only works with some filaments. Crash detection which is still not reliable even on the current f/w 3.3.1. A few days back I lost a print after 7.5 hours when it detected a non-existent crash and resumed with a 1mm layer shift on Y axis.

The Mk3 is an amazing printer and I hope it will fulfil its initial promise. But too many times over the last year have I heard 'just wait a few more weeks' for items and features which I thought I had purchased. it's getting old real fast.

Re: Powder coated sheet

So I do not understand the whole thing anyway.

When I ordered the upgrade kit back then, there was only the Powder Coated Heatbed. NOW you can choose it.
When I ordered the upgrade kit back then, there was nothing to read that you can print the parts yourself first (btw the PETG filament was terrible, it also messed up the nozzle completely) - NOW it is in the shop in red letters.

I got a heatbed with PEI coating in my 2.5 Upgrade Kit - not powder-coated. I just can not print the Prusa PLA on it, it just does not stick. On the heatbed of the MK2S (also with PEI coating), the same filament stuck perfectly.

The long delays, the subsequent change of the texts in the shop - and then you do not actually get what you have bought. Very annoying. The order of the MK2s at that time was also within the 30 day period for 50% off the upgrade kit. The delivery, however, was outside these 30 days. Of course I have not received the 50% discount ("only" 25% ... It is more of a principle thing).

I'm a big fan of Prusa - but at some point you have enough.
I'm not sure if I have "claim" on a powder-coated bed or not? No idea.

Support chat can tell you. I ordered in early Jan '18 and recently confirmed I'm on the voucher list.

Not having any issues with PETG on the PEI sheets here.

Re: Powder coated sheet

Hey!

Yeah, Support Chat confirmed that I’m also on the voucher list ... 10$ and free shipping for a powder coated sheet that will cost about 25$.

And I have troubles with PLA - especially with the PLA directly from Prusa. Wood PLA from China sticks „okay“. I have to send a photo to the support of my first layer. On the PEI sheet from my MK2s, every Filament sticks like hell. On the PEI from the MK2.5 I have just troubles.

But thanks 🙂 I try to resolve this with the support.

Have you tried just giving it a dunk under the sink with dish soap? Give it a good clean then avoid touching it. That usually fixes any adhesion problems I have.

Re: Powder coated sheet

I am also waiting for my powder coated PEI sheets. I was a fan of smooth PEI for maybe a month, but pealed it off and put on Buildtak instead, and it works SO MUCH BETTER. I still like Buildtak, but it does wear out after a few months, so now I use DOBSTFY sheets, and they are great, and cheaper than Buildtak, and last longer. So maybe someday I'll get the powder coated PEI sheet, but I'm expecting like many Prusa products, it was overadvertised and underdelivers. If you don't think so, I have a MMU v1.0 still in the box I'll sell you.

DOBSTFY is one I am currently testing. The results are similar to buildtak. With either, you have to watch PETG because it tends to stcik too well.

Re: Powder coated sheet

So ... finally, the email is here to choose between another smooth PEI with free shipping (will save you ~40$), a 30$ Voucher for the Shop or a 10$ Voucher for a powder coated sheet with free shipping (will save you ~20$).

So choose between 20, 30 or 40$.

All I want is what I have ordered a year ago with my 2.5 Upgrade-Kit -> a powder coated sheet.
So I have to choose the 20$ saving and throw some more money in the pot ... and wait a little bit longer.

Depending on the weather (and presumably other factors) shipping to my location (NE USA) is roughly $25, so I'm going that way.

Re: Powder coated sheet

I WANT the powder coated sheet. So I am going also this way.

But I have no idea what the price of this piece will be? No information in the store or the email ...

The smooth PEI sheet costs 30€. If the powder coated costs the same, I have to pay another ~23€ after the 10$ Voucher.

IMHO an information about the Price is necessary if you have to make a decision.

Log into the Prusa site, then view the store. The textured PC sheet is there, currently showing $24.99 for me.

I was there ... just found the smooth one ... hm.
Redirected to the „German“ Page with Euro prices. No textured sheet to see.

I'm going with 10$ off the textured sheet with free shipping so I guess $14.99 with free shipping.

Re: Powder coated sheet

when I received my mk3 PC Build plate, it was a similar offer, and I had a voucher for completing a questionnaire, so I used that, with my reduced price offer and it cost me ...

£3.20...

the next one (for missing out on the mk2.5 upgrade PC build plate), will be a bit more expensive,

But I have had my kit for ages and got perfectly functional smooth PEI buildplates which are still working!
