MK2.5 - Clicking sounds from Extruder-Motor, Problem with high pressure needed
Hello there,
i'm using a MK2.5 (not upgraded to S yet) and having trouble with printing parts:
As you can see, at about 6mm layer height, there are missing lines. Also, no or not enough filament is pushed through the nozzle.
I think, i've a problem with the Hotend or the E3D-Block, but i can't localize the issue.
I've tried:
- Cold Plug. It comes out very clean by the first try with PLA. As i tried this method, i thought, i have to push the filament really hard.
- Replaced the Nozzle
- Adjusted the strength of the two screws which holds the the lid (this hexagonal thing for the bondtech gears). They had to be screwed 2-3mm deep (not aligned with the extruder body). I've tried some settings, but i think, i have to screw them to hard/deep and this should be a hint for the cause of my problem.
Video #1: Screws are 2-3mm inside the Extruder-Body; Successfully printed many PETG-Parts, but also sometimes hear a clicking noise. Video was captured as the problem with the print (first picture) occures
Video #2: Loosend this two screws, so that they are aligned to the extruder body:
So, as described here it could be a problem with the PTFE-Tube inside the Extruder, and i should replace it. But the tube is a new one: I've bought the Upgrade for MK2.5S some month ago, printed the parts and disassembled the extruder. After that, i realized, that some of my printed extruder-parts had a layer-shift-problem (At 5-6mm Layer Height. Had this problem earlier and could'nt find a reason for that - so i thought, the upgrade to mk2.5s would be a good startpoint for throubleshooting and maintenance) and i can't use them to finish the upgrade.
I re-assembled the Extruder with the original 2.5-Parts but inserted a NEW PTFE-Tube (no, not that one from the 2.5S-Upgrade-Kit; i've ordered some month ago some spare parts for the 2.5(not S)) and as a first test, i printed the faulty parts for the 2.5S-Upgrade without any issues. Since this point i printed about 20 hours without the above problems - and some days ago, i got the problem described in this post.
Usually, i'm printing PETG; i use the printer for hobby projects and don't use it really much (maybe 3hours every 2-3 Weeks).
Okay. Sorry for that story. I'm having since many months the above problems, and i want to fix them without dis- and reassamble the printer 3 more times. If i could exclude some possible problems with, for example, replace the E3D Hotend by a new one - i will do that! (Why there are no spare parts like the complete E3D-Hotend in the prusa shop?)
Has anyone a idea, what i could try or give me a advice?
Thanks in advance,
RE: MK2.5 - Clicking sounds from Extruder-Motor, Problem with high pressure needed
A few older MK2 printers have needed to have the filament drive gear replaced due to wear. The teeth become dull and no longer cut into the filament like they should. This is normal.

Were can i get these spare parts? I don't find them in the Prusa Shop and only third party products on ebay & co?

Was solving something similar here

You need to be logged in to the Prusa store and be registered as an owner of the printer you are buying spares for. Probably Prusa's way of reducing folks ability to buy Prusa parts for clones.

Hello and thanks for your replies.
I've read some more articles in the web and decided, instead of replacing the heat break, to replace the whole hotend with a standard E3D v6. Maybe it would be enough to replace the heatbreak, but the afford to replace this single part (~25 € with shipping, more time for replacing) vs. replacing the whole hotend (for 66€ with shipping) in one step,...
I will upgrade to MK2.5S and replace in this step the hotend, and do some other maintenance steps (need new LMU8) - i hope this will fix THIS and some other issues. I will report in a few weeks (need to take a holiday for this :-)) the result. Thank you in advance!
RE: MK2.5 - Clicking sounds from Extruder-Motor, Problem with high pressure needed
Hello,
short update to my issue: I've upgraded last night from MK2.5 to MK2.5S, also replaced the Hotend by a new E3D v6-one and some bearings.
As far as i can say, was my original problem caused by a faulty heatbreak of the E3D. I didn't checked it further, but above the alu-heatblock, where the heatbreak is screwed into, i've some green PLA (from the above print) which is coming out between alu-heatblock and heatbreak. So it seems that the heatbreak was a little bit unscrewed (or broken/faulty).
I think, the problem started by the last 2 times i replaced the nozzle. After i have to build the E3D from single parts, i understand how to screw heatbreak against nozzle - if the heatbreak sits a little bit to high in the alu-block, u can't screw the nozzle against it and it will become loose (and leaky).
Thanks for your help! 🙂 I'm happy with it at the moment (after 11 hours of upgrading, maintaining and calibrating) - for now, it seems all ok 🙂
