Layer shifting after update to 3.4.1 firmware
Hello all,
I updated to the latest 3.4.1 firmware for my Mk2.5 a week or so ago and I have started to have some layer shifting. It always seems to be towards the back of the printer when it happens but I have not been able to find down what exactly is happening to cause it.
I am using the same slic3r profiles I was before the update though I did also fully update Slic3r PE when I updated the firmware. I have tried their pre-canned profiles as well and also had the issue. It does not always happen and the limiting factor seems like it may have something to do with the amount of items or the complexity in terms of mesh the items being printed are. For example, I tried printing a statue that was a 25mb stl and I sliced it 4 or 5 times with different settings and they all layer shifted (generally around the same area, but never exactly the same layers or area). I took that same model and simplified the mesh so it was a 5mb stl and the object printed perfectly fine. Simmilarly, I tried printing a single small object that printed fine by itself but when I put 6 on the platter to print overnight I woke up to them complete with a gradual shift over 6 or so layers near the top.
Has anyone else been having these issues or have any ideas on what may be going on? I have cleaned the printer and made sure there are no obstructions or anything. I am really unsure if this is a printer issue or a Slic3r issue.

I seem to be having a similar issue to you. I get a layer shift in the y direction with a large number of files, but less issue with fewer models on the printbed

Interesting, I just found another post of someone else that is also seeing layer shifting on this version of the firmware.
Did you also update Slic3r PE? I think my next goal is going to be to isolate if this is a Slic3r issue or a firmware issue. I am inclined towards firmware but I am having trouble convincing myself because that seems silly that it you be having an issue with slightly larger gcode files or something (the file that shifted in the statue case was 11.7mb and the one that did not was 7.7mb) but it could also be repeated very small moves because of the complex geometry or something along those lines.
Re: Layer shifting after update to 3.4.1 firmware
It would be worth checking the profiles in Slic3R, just to make sure the accelerations, velocities, and jerks are all the same as before.
Could be lower y-axis current.

I am going to check that but I did have this issue with both pre-canned profiles and profiles I imported and checked the speeds and they were what I was expecting.
I am suspecting something in the new firmware lowered the y axis current and it becomes an increased problem with rapid tiny movements.

Let's keep our fingers crossed than some Prusa representative can find that out and post here!

Re: Layer shifting after update to 3.4.1 firmware
An off thought: does the issue present itself when in Stealth AND Normal modes? If current related, I'd expect differences.
Re: Layer shifting after update to 3.4.1 firmware
I reverted back to firmware version 3.4.0 and the previous version of Slic3r and the issue seems to be gone. I did a print that I am 90% sure would have had the issue before and it was fine. I am running one now that I am 100% sure would have had an issue before and we will see how that goes.
Next step is to re-introduce the newer Slic3r and see if the issue returns. That will confirm if it is Slic3r or the firmware. Anyone else make any progress?
Re: Layer shifting after update to 3.4.1 firmware
With the reverted firmware and Slic3r the issue is indeed fixed.
Re: Layer shifting after update to 3.4.1 firmware
We're seeing similar problems following a firmware/Slic3r update (both upgraded at similar times, so difficult to isolate which is the culprit). However, I did spot that the default profile for the MK2.5 in Slic3r has X/Y max feed rates set to 500mm/s, which seems far too high. For comparison, the specs given at https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/printer-upgrades/179-original-prusa-i3-mk2s-to-mk25-upgrade-kit.html# say 100mm/s maximum. Will edit those and see if it helps...
Re: Layer shifting after update to 3.4.1 firmware
Anyone found a solution to this without reverting to older firmware? I have the same issue on Mk3. Does 3.5 fix this? I'd rather not waste another 10hrs and filament testing this again.
My offset clearly happens by a set amount for a number of layers, then it reverts back to exactly the correct Y position, then again offsets back to be in line with the previous offset. This precision in offset seems unlikely to be due to slippage otherwise it would be more random.
