Wish mine WASN'T on the way!

I've got a bit of a different complaint. Mostly I want to vent, but also I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I ordered my MK2.5 Upgrade back in October shortly after they were offered. I think the original delivery date was slated for January. That seemed optimistic, and I was anticipating delays as these things often go, so none of them have been a problem for me.

Then on March 2nd I received an email from Josef (as I'm guessing many of you did), mentioning the additional delay that the powder-coated print sheet was causing. In the email he mentioned the option of either taking delivery with a PEI coated sheet and a $10 voucher towards a powder-coated one when available, OR to let them know "ASAP" if I wanted to wait for the powder-coated version as ordered. I replied within 20 minutes (with my Order Number) that I preferred to wait. I think 20 minutes qualifies as ASAP.

Over the next two weeks I sent another 2 emails, as part of a continuing email thread with the order department, reiterating my preference NOT to get the PEI version with the voucher, and that I was fine with waiting.

Then last Wednesday I received an email saying my shipping label had been created for the Upgrade with the PEI sheet. AGAIN I sent an email stating I did NOT want that offer, and that I preferred to wait. When no reply came I assumed they had taken care of it.

Then at 13:14 today I received an apologetic email that the order shipped today anyway, and that I would have to refuse the shipment when it arrives. (The UPS page says they collected the shipment later in the afternoon at 16:39!) This means I have to make sure I am home for the delivery, and I have to communicate to the UPS driver in German (which I speak very poorly) that I want the shipment returned to the sender. Getting this idea across is not likely to succeed, at least not without pissing-off the driver!

Besides feeling that more than 2 weeks of email communication have been in vain, I have not been able to find out how much extra (above the $10 voucher) I am going to have to pay to get the powder-coated sheet (that I want and paid for) which was INCLUDED as part of the original 2.5 Upgrade price. I don't want to pay anything additional! All along I've been content to wait for the Upgrade to receive it as I ordered it.

Yes, I'm sure the PEI sheet will work, as it still works well on my MK2S - that is not the issue. I preferred to wait for correct one, free of hassle and additional cost. But most importantly I wish to be heard! I'm pissed because more than 2 weeks ago I starting sending them emails about this issue - that I did NOT want this shipment - all to no avail. I think they should have flagged my order immediately (after Josef's email)! It appears it was more important for them to get my order off the books than to take my preference into account.

This has now become a hassle, and my very high opinion of Prusa has just taken a hit!

Honestly I'd suggest just taking it as is and then grabbing the powder coated sheet when they're available.

The reason I suggest this is the pei sheets on the bed work flawlessly. Everything sticks well and it gives a very nice smooth surface. The textured ones that everyone is wanting will give a more bumpy rough look to your parts. While some may like this, there's going to be a ton of posts of people that don't like the different finish.

Having both build plates is the best of both worlds, you can use different ones for different parts but you also have a backup. Maybe one can be used for certain materials or something. The bed thats coming is the correct bed, its the correct steel spring sheet. Literally the only difference you'll be able to tell is the smooth vs textured finish.

Prices have been posted many times, they're like $25 so you'll pay $15 and FREE shipping. For all you know the sheets might never be possible to mass produce and you'll get the PEI anyway... they jumped the gun before they could even deliver at this scale so who knows. i hope they get it right because i wanted TWO anyway. one with texture, one with smooth finish.

I think Chat on the site gets better support than email IMO. it shouldn't be but i'm pretty sure they're understaffed for this kind of volume. apparently they won't be come april but no clue if that will fix it.

Life is full of hassles. On the hassle scale this rates pretty low I think.

Re: Wish mine WASN'T on the way!

I felt the same way about my MK3 order. But, I did not want to wait and I accepted the PEI sheet with the promise of a $10 voucher and free shipping for the coated sheet. But, after using the PEI sheet for a while, I honestly don't care if they get the coated sheets right or not. If I recall correctly, it has been said that even the coated sheets are considered a consumable and will have to be replaced eventually anyway. With the glued sheet, I can replace the PEI myself and save the shipping costs of sending new sheets to me in the US. I do plan to order a coated sheet if they ever become available, and I intend to order another glued PEI sheet with it.

Just offering my perspective as I originally felt the same way you do. Now, after three months of use, I honestly don't care if the coated sheets ever show up. I have an MK2.5 upgrade on order for my Mk2s now...

Thanks for some wise counsel. Most of you provided valuable information from your experience and perspective that I found useful. Some...did not.

💡 That may have something to do with this topic being "done to death" many times already.
