SuperPinda on MK2.5S

This thread is to discuss using the new SuperPinda on Prusa MK2.5/S .

Having noticed the latest firmware on my MK2.5S supports SuperPinda, I set about obtaining one.

Installation is like installing a Pinda2, except that the Y-harness is no longer needed IF one switches the 4-wire connector housing for a 3-wire connector housing as on a Pinda1. This tidies up the installation somewhat. Or, just plug it into the Y-cable like a Pinda2.

So after installing the SuperPinda and changing the setting for SuperPinda to "ON", I set about testing it on a long and narrow print that has always had first layer issues. With a 300mm x 10mm footprint, it only fits on the bed diagonally and usually takes several tries,  a full warm up, a bed cleaning and fine tuning the first layer height to get it to stick at all, then half the time it gets elephant foot and often warps . As I have printed well over 100 of these over the last 2 months, a lot of time and filament was wasted.

With the SuperPinda installed, enabled and calibrated, this notorious print came out perfectly on a "not-freshly-cleaned" bed started from cold with a very nice first layer. Considering that the Pinda2 worked fairly well, it's amazing what effect the relatively small increase of precision has made.

I'm sold!  The SuperPinda is a most worthwhile upgrade for a MK2.5S.

I really appreciated this piece. I often think of how much of a time suck and a mental drain diving into comment conversations can be. But sometimes it is worth it. At the end of the day, it's important to assert oneself and to attempt to have discussions about what matters to you.

Thank you for the top tip, I was able to swap them over and clear up the wiring a little inside the rambo case.

RE: SuperPinda on MK2.5S

I have one of these printers and it has a PINDA sensor that has a short. What can I replace it with? I am seeing terms about 3 wire, 4 wire, and clipping a wire to adapt a 4 wire to a 3 wire. I wish there was a definite answer of this topic I can not get my printer to print and calibrate without the sensor. I am not even sure if the existing sensor can be rewired and fixed. Can someone help me? I just want my printer to work.

This is how the sensor is advertised.

Will this work for my machine?

There are three types.

* Original PINDA (V1) with 3-wires on a 3-pin connector. Do not buy this. Heat affects the sensor and it has no thermistor so can't compensate.
* Updated PINDA (V2) with 4-wires on a 4-pin connector. They added a thermistor for compensation in software.
* SuperPINDA with 3-wires on a 4-pin connector. Better materials aren't as affected by heat, so it doesn't need the thermistor or compensation.

Do not CLIP any wires. That's bad advice and could damage your printer (e.g. crashing into the bed).

The advertisement suggests it's a V1 or V2. I wouldn't waste my money. The SuperPINDA is the part you want.

After installing the SuperPINDA use the LCD menu to let the printer know. It's a toggle-option under Settings -> Hardware -> SuperPINDA
