Prints cracking, lots of webbing and strands of filament strung behind nozzle

Couple of issues I've run into since my upgrade. Not sure if it's down to filament (Prima Easyprint and Select both similar issues) or the setup. Using standard settings for generic PLA in latest version of the Prusa Slicer. Thermal sock added to help with initial problems.

I've had a few prints with cracks in the outer wall (at inconsistent points / heights) and on occasion across an entire layer.

Webbing between parts (not really been an issue in the past for me.

More critically - a build up of webbing catching behind the nozzle, which I'm guessing is blown there by the fan.

Is there a basic option in the print settings I'm missing that could resolve these?

Might try lowering the extruder temperature. the generic PLA temps are a little high in my experience.

Image? Otherwise people will guess anything. Maybe a toddler is running into the printer with his walker....

Also - what exactly did you change during the upgrade.  Nozzle, extruder, hot-end, filament sensor, etc. ???

In a locked room so definitely not the kids 🙂

I’ll get an image up later. Only change that has been made other than the 2.5 to S upgrade is to add the thermal sock.

Will give adjusted temperatures a try in the morning.

Also drying the filament could be worth a try. Wet filament causes all kind of strange symptoms...

And after adding a silicone sock maybe a PID calibration might be useful.

What's the simplest method for drying? It's a fairly dry room but worth a go 🙂  Pretty sure I ran the PID calibration. Heat has not been an issue since installing the sock anyway.

Cracking

Example of the cracking on the surface (and on occasion across an entire layer)

That filament exactly looks like my wet filament. First it printed fine (fairly long prints), then it started behaving strangely - and in the end it showed clear symptoms of wet filament (oozing, popping sound).

I'm not an expert on this, but I baked mine in the oven at the lowest possible temperature (a bit less than 50°C) for 2-3 hours.

Layer adhesion is usually printing too fast and/or printing at too low a temperature.

You'll need to slow down the print speeds, possibly slow down the print fan to 25% or even off.  And increase nozzle temp 10c.  The hotter nozzle may help with the webbing.

As for drying filament: placing it in an oven is risky - if exposed to direct radiant heat from the elements you'll cook it.

Drop the spool and several large fresh desiccant bags in a ziplock bag forcing out all the air before you seal it.  Come back in a couple days.
