Firmware 3.7.0-RC1 for Original Prusa i3 MK2.5S & MK2.5

WARNING: Note that MK3S, MK3, MK2.5S and MK2.5 are different printers! Each has its own firmware file!!!

Hi guys,
this is an upgrade of the firmware for the Original Prusa i3 printer. Keep in mind this a release candidate (testing version) for experienced users 😎

What is new?
–> 7x7 mesh bed levelling
–> MMU2S fast mode (MK3S + MMU2 only)
–> Improved T-code load (printers with MMU2)
–> Change filament fix (printers with MMU2)
–> Eject filament contains ramming (MMU2 printers)
–> The informative message during switching between normal and stealth modes
–> Improved behaviour when removing SD card
–> Autoload disabled in extruder info (MK3) and sensor info (MK3S) menu

7x7 mesh bed levelling
It is now possible to increase mesh bed levelling XY resolution by activating measuring 49 points in 7x7 mesh. This can be done in the menu "Settings -> Mesh bed levelling". There is also a possibility to change the number of measurements for each point from 1 (fast, but less accurate) to 5 (most accurate) and also turn on/off magnet compensation. PINDA probe Z-coordinate measurement can be influenced by heatbed magnet proximity (by approximately 80 um) and thus distort mesh bed levelling calibration. If magnet compensation is off, all 49 points are measured and used for mesh bed levelling correction. If magnet compensation is on, for chosen points (which may be affected by magnets) are counted from surrounding points. Also, the mesh bed levelling Z-measurement algorithm was slightly modified to make the whole process faster. No G-code modification is needed. Standard G80 G-code will behave according to settings which were set in "Settings -> Mesh bed levelling" menu. It is also possible to use G80 Nx Ry G-code, where x is a number of mesh bed levelling points in one axis (3 or 7 are valid values) and y is number of Z-measurements for each point (which are then averaged). Settings done directly in G-code has higher priority then settings which are set in the menu.
I would like to thank all who were working on this feature and helped to implement it to our Prusa FW, especially @stahlfabrik, @mionut and @3d-gussner.

MMU2S fast mode
On MK3S printers with MMU2 connected it is possible to switch MMU between fast and stealth mode. This can be done in the menu "Settings -> MMU mode". With MK2.5S MMU runs always in stealth mode.

Improved T-code load
Load sequence was slightly modified to reduce missing layer error count.

Change filament fix
When changing filament (M600 G-code, menu "Tune-> Change filament" or filament runout) on printers with MMU2 connected, there is a possibility to re-do filament unload and load by choosing "Filament not loaded". This, however, didn't work properly in some scenarios and filament could remain stuck between extruder Bondtech pulley and nozzle. This has been fixed.

Improved behaviour when removing the SD card
When SD card is inserted SD card menu is automatically shown. When SD card is removed menu which was active when the SD card was inserted is restored.

Autoload disabled in extruder info (MK3) and sensor info (MK3S) menu
These menus serve for checking if the filament sensor works properly. The filament can be now inserted (without triggering load function) to check if sensor state changes.

Re: Firmware 3.7.0-RC1 for Original Prusa i3 MK2.5S & MK2.5

I just started my first print with the new 7x7 MBL, and I have to say, I'm quite impressed so far. I've always had issues on this printer with an inconsistent first layer with larger prints, presumably due to bed leveling issues.

I just started a full-plate print, and it's half-way through the first layer so far, with parts spread out in various places on the bed... and the first layer is looking perfect. Definitely the best first layer I've had on this printer in a long time, especially for something that isn't just in the center.

I'm using 7x7 with 5 tests per point and magnet compensation enabled, on a mk2.5

Also, I love the much faster MBL procedure! I was worried that 7x7 MBL would take forever, but it seems to be about the same speed as the old 3x3 MBL.

There's no way I would have been able to print a full plate of parts like that previously.

The 7x7 bed leveling is amazing, just tested a whole bed plane yesterday and 1st layer is consistent now. Pitty you didn't release it one week earlier when I was printing quite large stand 😉

I tested the 7x7 MBL with 5 points and mag compensation on last night and I was extremely impressed. I had been testing 7x7 leveling with a community FW version a few weeks ago and the results were OK, but I honestly felt the 3x3 in the factory Prusa FW worked just as well and often better.

With this 7x7 FW version, the results are incredible and a full-bed calibration layer turned out better than I've ever seen!

I've only done a quick test with 7x7 bed levelling, 3 measurements and mag compensation. I stopped it though, because it looked (and sounded) like the x-axis ramming into the endstop before beginning the bed levelling. It finishes though successfully. Did anyone else have this experience with the new firmware?

I didn't have any issues with it running into the end stop while doing the MBL procedure

I had the ramming of x axis before uploading the 3.7 firmware. I fixed it by gluing piece of plastic to the x carrige.

Getting good results but interested to know if behavior is normal on my 2.5. When running the 7x7 ml the first calibration point is at the complete edge of the left side - let's say x_origin-3mm. The furthest calibration point to the right is let's say around x_origin+220mm. I would have thought it should be centered on the print area. What are other people seeing?

Because you need the spring steel sheet to level it.

The mk2s has the fixed bed, not the spring steel sheet. If you have the spring steel sheet, you have a mk2.5 (or mk3). Unless you have some weird frankenstein that you created yourself, in which case, you're on your own 🙂

Re: Firmware 3.7.0-RC1 for Original Prusa i3 MK2.5S & MK2.5

yes It's as simple as removing a pei from the steel sheet and sticking it on the bed no is frankenstein problem MK2S no have noctua ,pinda2 and filament sensor ,I think adding code 7x7 to MK2S is not difficult for prusa but yes for me ,and prusa can to sell steel sheet to MK2Sto facilitate installation 😀

I have here producing 4 mk2s, 6 mk2.5 and 3 mk3s, but mk2.5 and mk3s crashes when I print ingeo850, the mk2s com 3.1.0 print everything without problem I do not want to update to 2.5 but it would improve a lot with 7x7 the finishing of my pieces in mk2s since I have tried it in mk2.5 and it improves a lot

That is not a configuration that prusa supports, so you're on your own with regards to enabling the new 7x7 MBL.

When initiating a bed levelling, the printer performs a X/Y homing. The X axis speed while homing is way too fast so that the X carriage bumps against the end stop with a bang. Half the speed is way enough.
