Y axis plate possible to install upside down?

Hi all. This is my first time building a 3D printer. I must say, I am very impressed with Prusa's instructions. Better organised even than Ikea! 😛

At first glance the Y carriage plate seems to be symmetrical, and indeed in Chapter 1 Step 26 it specifically says "orientation does not matter".

However, later on I noticed the "central" hole in the plate is slightly off-centre, making it NOT symmetrical. The central hole in the picture is about 0.5mm off to the left. Whereas mine is 0.5mm off to the right, because my plate is the wrong way up.

I have built the machine as far as the Z axis, but i note that later on in Chapter 7 Step 23 this hole seems to be very important. Do I need to disassemble my Y axis and do it again?

A quick sanity check would be to see if all of the holes in the heatbed line up with the holes in the 'squished frog' piece.

It's hard to tell if the holes line up or not, because of the protruding nuts on the 'squished frog'..

You may then have to at least partially assemble the heat bed to the 'frog' to test to be sure that everything will align properly when fully assembled.

Hmm, that's what I was hoping to avoid.. I don't want to assemble anything in the wrong order as it makes it difficult to follow the instructions..

Can anyone from Prusa comment?

These are user to user forums, it is rare for Prusa Staff to look at them.  Your best bet to talk to some one  at Prusa is via the chat feature on the Prusa shop home page (bottom right).

Thanks.

I see now that it's not the centre hole that is off-centre, but the two belt-holder holes, and it's not possible to flip the plate and change the position of the holes while not changing the position of the bearings, i.e. it IS symmetrical about the X axis.

So I can carry on.
Cheers 🙂

I believe I have run into this same issue - when I go to attach the heatbed the screwholes don't line up on the left and right sides. I'm hoping I don't have to disassemble and flip the carriage plate. Did you end up figuring anything out?
