I was also leaning towards starting to adjust the de-retraction settings first. I went ahead and printed another one with all the retraction settings turned off and also aligned the seam to see it a little better (better pics attached but disregard the big seams, that's just where I ran out filament and had to change rolls). I'll also try and find a smaller (faster) model to test any new settings out with.

Btw my replacement .6mm nozzle came in today - yeay! but I think I'm going to go ahead do my homework - leave the .8mm nozzle in and take the time to tune it for future use.

Basic settings but 3 perimeters.  I didn't see any of the issues you're experiencing. Having said that, I was using PETG, not PLA.  I have seen similar gaps at the seams with my Mk3S and 0.8 nozzles before. Interestingly, it only happened with a particular brand so I never tried to fix it, I just changed brand. But I think the problem is not the end of the layer but that de-retraction at the beginning so I'd start there, I guess

I changed the profile to "Original Prusa XL 0.8mm nozzle" and printed with the default print settings for "0.4mm QUALITY", the only thing I added was a "Variable layer height" modifier. I'm using Overtures's light grey matte PLA (disregard the black Flex print, I did that on the Mk4)

As you can see on the pics, there is definitely something going on at either the end or start of each layer . I know it's a retraction settings issue but can't figure out if its at the end (coasting) or at the re-start of each layer.

Has anyone tried using a .8mm nozzle with PLA on the XL? or have any suggestions as to what setting I should be focusing on?
