RE: Rough surface when supports removed

The photos above are of a mobile phone holder that I designed and printed in Tinkercad. I had supports everywhere enabled when I printed it, using the latest version of prusa slicer. I printed this on both the MK3.9 and the MK4. The rough back is where the supports were. Ironically the support material that I removed, was nice and smooth 😐

To me this actually looks very good for a supported surface. By definition, it will always be "choppy"; as the filament going down for that first layer above the supports prints on thin air caused by the small gap between it and the top layer of the support, it has an opportunity to sag a bit. But without that air gap the filament would just melt onto the support. The only way to avoid it is to use something like water soluble supports, or another filament type that doesn't interact. Usually you'll have to do some post processing, aka sanding and polishing, if you want really smooth surfaces.

Thanks for that Fuchsr, I'm quite happy with the result, I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong, I've never used supports over a large area before.
