I did exactly the same, and worked just fine.

I could successfully print Colorfab Varioshore :
- I disconnected the bowden tube from the nextruder,
- I pushed the VarioShore filament into the bowden tube until it exit at the other end of the bowden tube,
- I opened the nextruder and clamp the filament onto the gear,
- I re-connected the bowden tube to the nextruder and launch the print.
Every thing was ok

I have not had any success getting Varioshore to feed in the Nextruder. I think the filament is too soft for the extruder to grab. I can simply pull it out of the extruder with little resistance once it is al the way in. Is there a way to adjust the tension on the extruder? Has anyone else had success with Varioshore?
