On runout, printer asks to Remove Filament from Sensor but will not release from extruder

There are no "control options" only a message to "Remove the filament from the sensor" as it detected a runout.  Indeed, it ran the spool empty and I *expected* the filament to be pushed back out for me to remove.  Instead it hadn't budged and I now had to open up the hotend to remove it, and of course knocked the print so need to restart the entire job.

If you tell me to Remove the filament, you should at LEAST give me the option to "Backout more"

the normal procedure is that it tells you there is a run out and you need to remove the filament.

the filament will not be held in by the extruder at that point.

if you select continue on the screen the extruder motor will engage again so you should make sure you have it removed before you press anything on the screen.

this is a common thing that basically always ended up being that the users didnt read the message on screen and just selected continue which makes the printer want to load the next filament.

Pixel's response is what should happen, however, I ran into exactly what you experienced.  In my case, the extruder attached to back the filament out of the run it sensor, but the filament got caught on the tube inside the run it switch so it didn't come out. I too had to pull it out from the extruder. I didn't have time to open three run it sensor apart to see if there is an easy fix. If I come up with something, I'll add a comment
