Issue: Running out of filament during night

I have the problem that I often print overnight. It has now happened four times in a row that I came to the printer in the morning and ran out of filament. The display then says that the temperature has been switched off. (ok). After heating up, it asks whether the filament has been successfully discharged. But that has never been the case so far. I have always had to open the hotend and push the filament back by hand. (in 4 out of 4 cases). That can't be normal, can it?

RE: Issue: Running out of filament during night

I had a 36 hr job that ran out of filament at 80% done. I was watching and the filament sensor auto-detected EOF, ejected it and prompted to insert new filament. I pushed it in and it did the normal test with confirmation of color. Hit okay and off and running again.  I don't know what would have happened had I not been standing there, though.
