Is the MK4 nozzle the same as the XL nozzle? Do you change nozzles using side thumbscrews like the MK4?

The answer to your first question is: YES (both are the "Nextruder")

According to the data on the Prusa e-shop,
they are not equal to each other.
And therefore "partially" not interchangeable.
What does match is tightening with the thumbscrews.
RE:
Sorry to say - but you are wrong - we are talking about nozzles - and they are the same (as you can see):

Weird. It looks like the hot blocks and nozzles are the same, but the heater and thermistor are different. The heaters looks identical, but the XL thermistor has a longer wire. I wonder why Prusa didn't make them the same? I wouldn't have minded it the wires on the thermistor on my mk4 were longer.

Now I got your point - ok:
Nozzle is the same for MK4 and XL, but not the assembly you have to change if you want to swap to another nozzle. Because the assembly between these printers are different. The only difference I found is the length of the thermistor cable - XL: 115 mm; MK4: 90 mm; all other parts are the same.

The heater is apparently different, too. In the spare parts list, the mk4 heater does not list compatibility with the XL.

There's no need to swap the assembly. You can replace just the nozzle. I move my expensive Obxidian nozzles between XL and Mk4 a fair bit, with no issues. Parenthetically, I don't follow Prusa's somewhat convoluted process. I do it like we all did on the Mk3 by holding the heater block with a wrench and removing the nozzle while the hotend stays in place.

I have changed to the 0.4 nozzle. I also ordered a further heater block, heater and thermistor. As written before heater and thermistor are different from the MK4. Of course you can just buy a further nozzle but I decided to speed up the nozzle change by ordering the other parts aswell.

Actually, the thermistor and the heater ARE the same, the wires for ones for the XL are longer than than the MK4. Electrically, they are identical. I would use the ones for the XL in my MK4 since it would make it easier to run the wires to the Loveboard.

Makes it definitely easier for the MK 4. As we are in the XL section, 😉, the ones for the MK 4 wouldn’t fit for the XL due to cable length - but, yes you are right.
