I can see some of the feature in a smaller printer

That's why I have a MINI+ and this coming weekend I'm building a Voron V0.1 (pocket rocket!)

Good to hear, would probably gone with the Trident too if it was available in the EU warehouse, since it seems a little simpler to build than the 2.4.

Pulled the trigger on a Formbot 2.4/300 kit a few days ago.

I did a Formbot3d Trident 300mm kit - and everything is working quite well so far.

Did you get your Voron kit in the end or are you still waiting on the XL?

Hmm. I still have my pre-order in place for the XL and will probably pull a trigger on it when it is released.

I mean, CoreXY is so lovely IMO!

(and still have the Trident, and have added a few more Voron machines to my hobby)

I ended up building a 2.4 after realizing that the XL would not ship for nearly a year since my preorder. Looking back, a trident would have probably been a lot less headache and I didn't need the extra Z volume anyway. The flying gantry while pretty cool is a pretty finicky beast. My MK3S with a basic enclosure was able to get all the ABS pieces printed somewhat acceptably.

I've had to integrate a separate filament runout sensor + configure M600 from scratch for filament changes in slicer, things I took for granted with the Prusa. Also did the CAN Bus conversion after wires started breaking in the cable chains. Went from the stock inductive probe to klicky and now preparing to install the TAP. Lots of things to tinker with.

While I would have preferred to have been playing with the XL this entire time, the Voron experience was quite rewarding and I'm glad I took the plunge.

RE:

I have too many Voron printers (6) and they are a freakin' blast to tinker with but I also have things tuned enough that when it is time to get things done I can get them done.

Trident has 1500 hours on it, and one of my 2.4s has 1200 hours, and my first V0.1 has just over 1000 hours. And I joined team Voron 15 months ago.

One 2.4 (350) and one V0.1 are not enclosed and are abused for PLA/PETG while the others are enclosed for ABS/ASA.

But.. still looking forward to the XL with multiple toolheads and enclosure cause that will be some fun shit.

Edit: I have Tap on the Trident and two of the 2.4s and it's more fun than klicky. The 2.4 350 uses an Euclid probe cause Tap was not out and it works flawlessly.

RE:

Another, really related question:
Prusa XL (with 2 Toolheads to start with) or a MK4 as a reliable small printer + a Voron (probably Trident) 300 (or 350?) as the bigger printer.
I sometimes have bigger stuff to print, but that is like 5% of all parts, and would be handy in perhaps overall 25% of all parts.

I ordered on the day of pre-order starting.

Mk4 is a nonstarter for me as I almost exclusively do bicolor prints that exceed the bed size of a i3. I would love to have the xl and say goodbye to manual filament changes for good. I looked into mmu but decided against it.

If you have Vorons have you considered the ECRF

Why yes, I have!

But independent toolheads make me excited..

I was going to get this ECRF https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005109252119.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.28.55241802mjaHn2 and possibly this Voron Kit https://www.lslabs.co.uk/product/voron-2-4r2-full-kit/

My Voron 2.4 has been working nicely for a couple of months already. Built from the LDO-motors kit plus a RPI and a Mosquito hotend. After replacing the Clockwork 2 extruder with a Bondtech LGX,  I did the Klicky mod and now I'm going to install the auto-z feature.  Just a silly question from a Voron newbie adressed to Geekandi and Cullinaire .. what is the TAP ?.

I knew about the ERCF  but I'm not interested on that kind of multi material setup, either from Prusa or the Voron community,  Very tricky to get those things operating properly and an absurd waste of filament and time. IMHO multi toolhead is the only way to go.

Tap is the new bed levelling system for the stealthburner hotend that uses the nozzle for tapping the bed similar to the way the nextruder does it

How does it work this "Enraged Rabbit Carrot Feeder"?? Is there a video of this thing in action?

Tap: https://github.com/VoronDesign/Voron-Tap uses the toolhead as the Z probe and works like magic! Team worked for some time to get this out the door for us enthusiasts and I have it on a few printers now.

Works as advertised.

Thanks for the videos, interesting. I still wouldn't venture Voron universe for myself, but for engineers or tinkerers I bet it could be an interesting project.

It does look interesting and you are right, moving into the ecosystem has it's initial hiccups and hurdles.

Before I built my Trident in December 2021 I had not done any electronics work, nor building something like such, in a couple of decades, let alone ever printed in ABS before. That printer now has well over 1500 hours of print time and is damn solid.

Sounds really interesting but my tinkering skills don't go that far, for the time being.  This TAP requires significant hardware work and, correct me if I'm wrong, the only real advantage versus a microswitch probe  with auto-z, is the precision. 0.5 microns is truly amazing, for sure but I'm contented with the 5 microns of my Klicky. If it gets worn with time, it's very cheap to make another one : a D2F-Omron switch, three magnets and a small  printed part. No need to disassemble anything.

That said, I'm downloading the TAP assembly manual, just in case ( never say never... 🤔 )
