RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
You might be able to get Prusa to do that, but what would be the cost?
I've got two working printers, I'm not going to sweat the exact delivery date of the XL yet lol I'd rather they get it right out of the gate.
Yes, the build, change, rebuild is a pain- but at least now the machine will recalibrate itself!!!
I got to rolls of PC fiber to play with. I’d like to preprint some parts that would be key to higher temp usage than PETG parts would allow.
I am hoping this would be one of the options to select when purchasing; select colour: orange/black/PC fiber.
Many would pay the extra just for the looks of pc lol

No sure I understand.
if they do we would know more about how long to wait 🤣
better to know how much Preorders they got in 11/2021
He's just predicting that if Prusa releases their pre-order numbers he'll be able to estimate his shipping date. He'd also have to know their production capacity. So if you have any of that information, please stop holding out. LOL
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
So I guess a detail that I should have paid more attention to was if he expanded tool head number just set up the system to except more tool heads or if the actual device and that tool head changer is included? I opted for the five option, and assumed it would come with five functioning extruders. Is that other people’s understanding?
after paying off all the holiday bills I’m getting a little queasy on the $3500 punch for this. I know it’s a while off, but it would be great if Prisa were able to either start firming up delivery times or at least tease us with other tool head options.
also sooner or later I’d like to see the tech specs released for the tool head so that we can either start to understand it better, maybe see how we could tweak some of the heads, and maybe third parties could come out with specialized ones.
that and the software aside and how all of this will come together, and how we can design optimally for this.
not really complaining that these things haven’t happened, just pointing out that Prusa could be coming out with some thing pretty substantial on the information side every month until the hard launch occurs.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I'm under the impression that the 5 extruder model that I preordered will come with 5 extruders.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
"Once your order is about to be shipped, you will receive a notification with the option to edit your order - select a specific XL version, add accessories, add-ons, filaments, etc. The deposit will be deducted from the total price."'
The $199 deposit just secures your place in line. The config option seems to be only a make you feel good thing.
Donât trust forum advice.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Yes, but you are not locked into the version your reserve.

I know I'm not looking to go down from the 5. I'm anxious to do my first multi material tpu print lol

If I'm ordering the 5-tool option, it better be 5 functioning extruders & the ability to switch between them. I don't see how it could be taken to mean anything less.
Whatever you find to do with your hands, do with all your might!
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
The config option seems to be only a make you feel good thing.
It also gives Prusa a quick poll on which versions people are interested in and hence very rough numbers for the parts.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
This will be my first Prusa... pre-ordered 2 tool heads and semi assembled...wish me luck
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I couldn't justify spending $1000 on 3 additional print heads.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
It really depends on what you print. If you print mixed materials or different nozzle sizes, it makes sense. If not, it is just a waste of cash.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
So besides the main filament + supports filament combo and the obvious 5 color features, how many prints out there actually combine different materials?
For what I've read, since each "plastic" behaves different, it can be sort of a nightmare to make certain Combinations.
The most interesting one being a rigid plastic+flexible plastic, but then there's the layer adhesion between materials. Hmmmm...
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I am already making snap-fit components between different materials. With the XL I will be able to print them already assembled. I don't care so much if the materials bond or not. And now I won't have to fiddle with the tolerance between the 2 pieces. And I can model them to be locked in place more securely. Currently, I have to add glue if I want the joint to be permanent.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Can you share pics? Which materials Do you combine?
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
No pics; trade secret. But the snap-fit joint is a modified dove-tail. So far I've combined TPU with either PETG or PLA. No reason it couldn't be done with ABS, PC, or Nylon.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
So Prusa's blog says no shipping until Q3 and not all preorders will ship this year. Wonder how many will actually be made?

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
"As for our upcoming 3D printers, the XL is scheduled for Q3 2022. However, due to the shortage of materials (as described above) it is likely that not all pre-orders will be shipped this year."

So it looks like more Q4/2022 or Q1/2023 now ^^
Who would have guessed ^^
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Disheartening indeed...
