RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
if shipping was just announced you have just under a week to go! it was about just under two weeks from when I got the email and immediately confirmed to when I got it. Mine was for the fully assembled version, which still requires you to spend time putting the toolheads and wifi antenna on. Make sure you flash to the latest 5.1.0 firmware and update to 2.7.0 prusaslicer, it gets MUCH better than the 4.7.2 that mine shipped with.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Now that I'm rereading your post, I see it took a good long time the email to actual shipping, I wonder why. I was one of the 2023-11-18 preorders.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Any update on shipping? everyone getting theirs? Still on same schedule?
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
5-head XL kit;
- ordered: Jul 2022
- finalized/paid: Jan 04 2024
- planned shipping: next week (from Jan 15 2024).
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
nice to hear...
RE:
Got my 5XL last week after finalizing the order during Xmas break. DHL managed to spread out the delivery of my three boxes (Printer, 3x Printheads, 3 extra nozzles) over three days. For those in Switzerland: CHF 278.85 Taxes/Customs & Handling (better than expected tbh). I saw the driver handle the main box before I could intervene and seriously wish I hadn't, but nothing looks bent.
Not much time available to assemble yet, I'm only just done with the frame (next up toolchanger). Mostly pleasant except for the LCD cable routing, which caused several angry outrages and lots of blood loss (enough to clone me one day, the cable is now half red). If I had known before I'd have printed some brackets for it, no reason to run it in the extrusion groves as it is anyway not visible underneath the base plate. I was so relieved when the display came on.
Edit: ordered 20.3.2022
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Nice! and now the fun begins 🙂 The frame of mine has a big scar on it from transit, but it's cosmetic. I did reach out to prusa with pictures when I got it though just to have a record that it had happened in case there were operational issues. Now you'll get to see what all the griping has been about 🙂

Oh thanks 🙄
Another anecdote: Literally 2 hours after I put the XL box next to it, my beloved Mk2.5s spat a hotend thermal runaway error and since then refuses to complete prints. I had a thermistor around to replace, but that's not it, and the PSU measures fine. I hope it's just the heater cartridge and not the Rambo board, because then you could say it saw the XL, said its farewells, and shot itself in the head.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
That murphy guy is a bastard 🙂 I take it you didn't order the fully assembled unit? Mine came in one big box. Keep us posted though, I'm curious how you get on.

Yes, semi-assembled. I figured the way they ramped up production they'd hire a lot of new staff with not enough time for training. I work daily with precision positioning equipment and have assembled a few corexys from scratch, so why trust some random people I'll never meet. It's super hard to track down and fix issues resulting from skewed geometry (e.g. improper torquing). I'll also check the bed and lead screws for straightness before further assembly. Can't do much about the rails but maybe I'll at least check the torque on each screw.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I'm just a software developer, not a hardware guy as much lol. I've bought all my new units factory assembled and then when the upgrade kit comes I do that myself. I'm looking forward to the first hardware rev of the XL so I get a chance to learn a bit more about how it's all put together. I'll probably take the opportunity at that time to reprint some of the parts in a more fun color lol.

That's exactly why I keep my UM2 and XL in 2 separate rooms, they do not know of each others existence...
