RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
You are welcome 🙂 Glad to be of service 🙂
Never fly a A model. Thank you all for stepping in as a BETA tester for 3500 euro. I will wait until all frustrations, mistakes, errors, updates and ….. are solved. In my opinion the XL is one big experiment of new functions.
again thanks for testing well appreciated
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Zemst I fully agree. Indeed one of my problems is, the printer is not enclosed. I print most of the time on a Raise3d pro and know the benefit of a closed printer. The Prusa XL is not a all purpose printer. Just a screen will only prevent some draft. Hot air wil go to the top and leave the printer.
don’t understand me wrong, I also have two mk3s printers and I’m very happy about Prusa even on my Raise I only use prusament. But I think the Prusa XL is a (to0) big step. Hope I’m wrong, and you all have a great printer at the start.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
They are going to offer a full enclosure.

I suspect you are right.
I suspect they removed dates as there is no set release date yet. I expect it to reappear nearer the time...

I think the benefit of have a 3mm extruder is about being able to use some filaments that are only available in 3mm or using up the spool you ordered by mistake.
I have an Amazon clearance site nearby that always has quality 3mm filament for 3$ a spool.
I'm ok not having to keep two diameters of filament around lol

Makes sense. I don't think I've run across filaments I absolutely had to have that weren't available in 1.75mm though, but I'm sure I don't print nearly as much as other folks on here. I also just make stuff for myself and gifts for friends lol. given that I just plopped down 4k for a 5 extruder xl, maybe I should start selling stuff lol

No kidding about trying to sell stuff. This can become an expensive hobby. I never envisioned becoming a printing business, however, retirement is close on the horizon, so who knows.
While I use my printers for making functional items and for IoTs add ons, cases, and such, it would be nice to try to defray some of the costs of the printing. In my case, that will probably never happen, but it is nice to think about.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Yes, I'll be up to 3 printers when the XL arrives, I definitely need to look into trying to recoup costs. I'm already looking at 5k for one of those fancy 3d scanners lol That's what my yearly bonuses are for lol

Congrats on taking the jump. My next printer after the XL might be the SL1S. I will get an Anycubic Photon Ultra in January to February followed by the XL. Now, I have to expand my workshop to house them.

It is not clear to me if it will be possible to add print head at a later time
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
They confirmed this in their video. You can change the version and number of heads at a later date.

Outta curiosity, why an SLS if you're getting a Photon Ultra?

I bought the Ultra to learn. I hate to buy a $2K machine to learn. If resin fits my business model, more will come. I retire in 13 months and I want a supplemental income. I am building a business around my rocketry hobby. I design tools, jigs, nose cones, fin cans, avionics bays, and other parts for hobby rockets. It both supplements my income and hobby. I have trouble getting some parts right because of overhangs. Resin printer may be a part to help with that.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I've gone All In and put my order in with 5 print heads. I've got two MK3's that I upgraded to S+'s and then bought the MMU 2.0 when it first came out. I still can't get it to work and it's still in a box on the side of my desk.
I wanted so much to work in multi-color, but it was not to be. I'm hoping the XL will allow me to expand beyond single color and type filaments.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I've had my MK3's since they came out. The MMU 2.0 was a disappointment and I hope the XL will give me what MMU couldn't. I'm in your boat also in that I would like to retire so I've been putting things in motion for a shop.
The 3D printing will be part of it, but my Center Piece will be a CNC table from AVID. It blends in with the same skills. CAD your project, send to Prusa Slicer or Mach4 for CNC. It all runs on G code so skills will be enhanced while learning both.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Yes, they are not listing the accessories yet and said they would make another announcement on those when they start to ship. Get ready to "Ear Mark" additional funds.... lol
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Yes, it will be just starting tax season so you can replace the money.... lol
RE:
Just had to get in the queue so literally just pre-ordered with two tool heads. I can definitely see more heads on the horizon but will wait until the bugs are worked out. Let the waiting game begin (again)!
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
@dewey79 I had the same experience with MK3 and MMU2. I hoped for it to be a Multi Material extension to the MK3, but it turned out to be a Multi Color extension with problems.
After giving up using it for stable multi color prints, now it is more an easy way to always have 5 colors loaded to one of the MK3 printers.
To me the Prusa XL is super exciting, not for the size, but for the possibility to do real multi material prints (pre-ordered 5 tool head version) in a diversity of materials. The self calibration of bed level and nozzle alignment is awesome! That will save a lot of frustration and time consuming manual calibration I see on other multi head printers.
If PR releases "empty" tool holders, it will open of for tinkering other types of extruders, like chocolate, silicon, ceramics and the likes. The new bed level system will make it possible to extrude onto other materials like fabric (t-shirts), flat wood (pre laser cut or CNC'ed), etc.
It should also be easy to make a simple 3D scanner, just poking the bed with a long thin pin in a fine grid using the build in load sensor cell.
It is very exciting and waiting seems long to Q2-Q3 2022, and maybe later as I was 12h after announcement...
Anyone knows if there will be a broader beta program for the XL?
Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

Dear Josef,
I hope this doesn't come off sounding childish.
But I'm holding my Breath and Stamping my feet until my Prusa XL is Delivered.
Yours Truly,
