RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Do you know the story with the boy that cried wolf? If you miss the target time for a couple of times its understandable. If after almost 2 years you still cant give a target date that you can honour, and instead from last march you are moving the date month by month and lately by fortnight, the supply chain is just a cheap excuse (imho). If you are already delayed for a year and the supply chain was NOT an issue for the MK4 your launched and delivered then is NOT an excuse for the XL. At least stop moving the date all the time. Give a realistic date even if it will cause complains and honour it. I'm a dual head order on the launch date. It went from march to may to end of may to 19 of june to 31 of june and now i 4th of july and keep waiting. And this on top of the one year delay.
I don't think Prusa has been dishonest & I don't think the incremental schedule revisions were done to avoid complaints. I think they are a real consequence of the current supply chain paradigm along with the innovative nature of the XL development. They are still scrambling to tweak things based on feedback from beta-users. Hopefully, most of those tweaks at this point are user instructions or build instructions (for semi-assembled) rather than hardware or firmware. Prusa is a young company, having growing pains, & still figuring it all out. I think they're doing an excellent job, for the most part.
I've been involved in manufacturing, production planning & scheduling, supply-chain, forecasting, & business development for 35 years - much of it in new product releases. In the mature companies I've worked for, we had a lot of experience & resources to draw on, but still had issues from time-to-time. This is not untypical or unexpected. If you want stability & predictability, you will need sacrifice innovation.
Well there is no wrong or right, rather different schools of thinking. For me is better if you are honest and from the start set a realistic and honest estimation rather moving the "date" litlle by little to avoid vocalised complains.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
I agree and prefer and respect the way Prusa does things. I have never had a lemon from Prusa; they work as advertised. Sometimes, they need a firmware upgrade to get all the promised features, but Prusa Delivers.
I, too, am frustrated by the delays, but I think we will be rewarded with a great printer with a long life.
The process of beta testing takes time and causes delays. I hope Prusa builds that into their processes better in the future, but I will live with it if it means I get a superior printer in the long run.

U think so?
We were promised a farm feature for the Prusa Mini... well, that was so long ago it's already obsolete by now.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
My statement still stands - did you get a lemon? Joseph commented on the mini Farm a while ago. They continue to work on it. Just because you don't have it does not mean it will not be there eventually.

RE:
Prusa has provided the most pleasant 3d printing experiences of ANY 3d printer I have used! And I have used many. Pro systems by Stratasys and Objet (now owned by Stratasys), consumer systems by Makerbot, Solidoodle, Mendel-style, Formlabs, Ultimaker, probably others. None of these printers or their slicer/control softwares have worked as well or as consistently as the hardware and software that Prusa has provided over the years. At this point I find myself choosing Prusa because I trust them. Even if they may be more expensive or they fail to make their own imposed deadlines. Their printers are very good machines and I have not found any other designer/supplier who can match their capability and quality across all metrics.
I know that whenever I get my hands on the XL (eventually) it will be a game changer and will likely enable new 3d printing approaches and techniques that today are not possible. I dont think we would be where we are with 3d printers without Prusa. I am glad to have known them and they have fully earned my patience and loyalty. I hope they keep going strong for years to come.
We'll wait a little longer.....it is all going to be worth it in spades. In the mean time I build a Mk4, enjoy some new Prusa tech and look forward to a MMU3...good times are coming.
Best to all my fellow Prusa owner/users!

for me a lemon was mmu2s
an overpriced non lemon was sl1
mk3s is excellent but a good product is not equivallent to a good excuse.
There are probably hundres of companies with fewer to no lemons in comparison to prusa, so to have a good item on your history its not something so great that gives to prusa absolution.

Anything that is still being worked on can never be obsolete.
And for the impatient among us, yes it does take a long time in some cases.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
No comment on the MMUs. I sold each one I built. I did not need them once I built them. I like the concept but do not need multicolor printing for 99.99% of my prints. I got the last MMU to work with some tinkering. I can see why so many people have problems getting it to work since I almost gave up.

That's not an option. PrusaSlicer was built on top of other open source projects & continues to integrate code from other open sources. Many of the contributors are volunteers, not employees.
I think Prusa is going to have to monetize the Prusaslicer in the next two-three years.
Whatever you find to do with your hands, do with all your might!
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Concur. I am sure the idea to make PrusaSlicer a paid product would be illegal. For the same reason, Prusa cannot sue Bambu for using their product is the base of BambuStudio.

You'll have to excuse me but I don't think Prusa is a "young company". They where founded 11 years ago and have sold thousands of printers since then, they have reached several milestones already. They have diversified their portfolio to include resin printers, delta printers, now their first Core XY, they have a their own great slicer, MMU. They are developing their AFS. I don't know what's your definition for "young company" but I don't think Prusa is young anymore, I believe "established company", "leader of the desktop 3d printer market" defines them better, even though the "leader" spot is been challenged by an actual "young company" with 1 year anniversary recently celebrated, Bambu Lab. I don't see nobody cutting any slack to Bambu Lab for been a "baby" company, not even "young" even after delivering what Prusa hasn't even promised let alone fulfilled, the X1C. I'm getting double standard vibes on your statements. The XL and MK4 releases haven been shady to say the least. I understand they need to compete or at least try but not at the expense of good values and transparency. They owe their place to their hard work but also to the community/customers support.

How well did that XL box fit through your front door? Asking as I'm realizing just how big (and specifically, heavy) it will be.
Already got a table for it, and have bribed a friend with haribos and beer to help move it once it arrives (waiting for shipping email still, Day 5/Business day 3).

If you can fit a refrigerator, you can fit this printer.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
well, I imagine it's close to a 30" wide box at one end. My apartment definitely has a thinner than normal doorframe which has me sweating.
Additionally, the printer weights 29kg according to the the XL main page, before adding heads. The manual indicates you should definitely bring a friend to lift it and locate it, lol.

I know I'm going to need a new bench for mine. I am holding off building it until I have experience working around the machine and know how much space will be needed. Fortunately a friend with a first class wood workshop owes me a bunch of favours - much of his kit is kept going by parts I've printed.
Cheerio,
RE:
I built a double shelf out of 2x4s and plywood. It is very heavy and study. Nearly zero vibration. It is 4x8 feet, with one shelf 10 inches off the ground and the other at about 48 inches off the ground. I could enclose the bottom shelf. I currently have 4 Minis and 4 MK3S on the top shelf. The XL will go on the bottom shelf with 2 other large printers.
I used these to make the frame:
I am sure they something similar in the UK.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Won’t lie the box and weight was a lot bigger and heavier than I had expected . The DHL woman who delivered it could t carry it and had asked for assistance getting it off the truck. It’s big and definitely a 2 person lift for safety so you don’t hurt yourself .
