RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Is there a possibility that an XL kit will be released in the future? I’m not talking about semi-assembled. When the Prusa Mini came out in October 2019, it was only available as fully-assembled and semi-assembled. Eventually the kit came out a year later in December 2020.
The huge backlog of XL orders will also have an effect of a kit being released. I know that it may be a challenge for the end user. A Voron 2.4 takes at least 40 hours. The approach will likely be streamlined by Prusa, but it will still take some time due to the complexity of CoreXY.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
in addition to the logistics above, there's two other factors: Bambu makes their stuff in China (the Texas location is just for looks and for the next bit) so scalability is a huge factor. Finally, there's the ultimate rub of that we (the US) have given China Most Favored Nation Status, while with most of eastern Europe we have not. That helps them dodge a lot of customs, tariffs and fees, or at least reduce their rates substantially.
The way around this would be to pay a little more now to encourage trade with entities other than China. Short term, yes, it costs more; long term it encourages manufacturing growth in other areas. This creates regional manufacturing, which increases prices a bit more than they are now, but gives more options long term as we get better overlap of goods. Examples of this working well are Mitutoyo and LEGO who have many facilities around the world, and make it clear where what is made.
Anyways, back to more important things...:P

okay, update on the finalizing process: checked my order status on their website today. They now have it updated to where if you have a semi assembled kit, you can upgrade it to fully assembled. If you do this, it will unlock 2 tool heads as an upgrade option. You cannot upgrade to semi assembled 2 tool heads, yet. I also confirmed for the long time waiting folk that it's a satin and textured bed they are giving us; if that's been covered I apologize for missing the memo ^_^
I completed my order, and am now waiting for my DHL email.
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
It has arrived ! 2 head assembled unit ! I will follow up in a few days after I run it through some tests !
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Wooo! I'm excited for you. I'm hoping mine ships and arrives as quickly as yours!
RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
Me, too, but so that everyone knows - Printed Solid appears to be owned by Prusa. See the image attached.
For what it’s worth I have a great relationship with PrintedSolid . They are a great batch of individuals there and I have purchased quite a bit from them . I would recommend them to ANYONE !

The XL is semi-assembled. It should be much faster to build.

Yes, that is obvious. Again, I have to ask, do you think they will eventually release a kit further down the release cycle as they did with Prusa Mini?

There's no announcement on that regard & I'm not aware that it's even been hinted. I don't expect that we'd see anything like that until the order backlog is caught up. They still have a lot of work to do developing the build instructions for the semi-assembled 5-head units. Developing build instructions for completely unassembled kits for 3 different models (1, 2, & 5 heads) would take a lot more work.
Whatever you find to do with your hands, do with all your might!

Update to the shipping schedule:
The five-tool assembled printers will follow in the week of July 24th.
The dual-tool semi-assembled printers will be ready in the week of July 31st.
The five-tool semi-assembled printers will be ready in the week of August 7th.
We are aware that you have waited much longer than was initially expected. The XL has been in development for several years, and the expectations are high. We didn’t want to leave anything to chance and compromise the quality of the final product at the very last moment.
BTW we've added two useful gifts to all XL preorders as compensation for the delay: an extra print sheet and the Nextruder adapter for third-party nozzles.

You mean ANOTHER target date. Im not especially optimistic that Prusa will honor the new new new new new target date.

I understand the frustration. For me, "ANOTHER target date" is better than no date.

Well there is no wrong or right, rather different schools of thinking. For me is better if you are honest and from the start set a realistic and honest estimation rather moving the "date" litlle by little to avoid vocalised complains.
RE:
I don't think Prusa has been dishonest & I don't think the incremental schedule revisions were done to avoid complaints. I think they are a real consequence of the current supply chain paradigm along with the innovative nature of the XL development. They are still scrambling to tweak things based on feedback from beta-users. Hopefully, most of those tweaks at this point are user instructions or build instructions (for semi-assembled) rather than hardware or firmware. Prusa is a young company, having growing pains, & still figuring it all out. I think they're doing an excellent job, for the most part.
I've been involved in manufacturing, production planning & scheduling, supply-chain, forecasting, & business development for 35 years - much of it in new product releases. In the mature companies I've worked for, we had a lot of experience & resources to draw on, but still had issues from time-to-time. This is not untypical or unexpected. If you want stability & predictability, you will need sacrifice innovation.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread
The supply situation may have been relevant in 2021 and early 2022. We are in a manufacturing recession right now, almost as bad as the GFC and the start of the pandemic. If anything, we are going to start to hear about shortages from parts of the supply chain shutting down, rather than over ordering and that scarcity…
The highly vaunted feedback from beta testers only came this year.
They launched the XL to keep people from jumping ship. They launched the Mk4 saying that they had learned their lesson, and they haven’t. I’ve already switched all my filament buying to Matterhackers and a local shop. The resin printer I’m going to buy won’t be a Prusa.
I think Prusa is going to have to monetize the Prusaslicer in the next two-three years.

Well it's here, gonna be a fun 4th.
