RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread

I got my email to ship this morning; it says once confirmed, allow one to two weeks for shipping. However, despite them showing the dual heads are shipping, you cannot select it as an upgrade option. Semi assembled can be upgraded to fully assembled, but there is no upgrade option for going to two heads (I want to swap to two heads fully assembled if it gets me it that much faster; and I want the two heads).

Speaking with support they said to check in a few days, since the dual heads are shipping.

I placed my order on November 18th, 2021 at 9:03am PST.

Shipping says it's at $222.83 via DHL. US Customs in theory will take another 3% on top of that. So for those of you with singlehead semi assembled shipping to the USA, your approx. final bill will be $2289.50 cents.

Round up to nearest hundred, and that's $2300 as your expected price to pay, if it's less, rejoice, if it's within $50 more, I'd still say rejoice, cause new printer! 😛

Got the DHL import fees bill to USA , it was an additional 139.63 on top of the 229 shipping from Prusa . About 370$ total shipping to get an XL to me

That is not terrible.  Congrats on getting close to receiving it.  I can't wait to hear about it.

I still don't get why they don't do container loads of printers to that US branch and ship from there.  A bulk container load has to be afraction of the cost of single airfreight?  Plus, what is a couple of extra weeks?

Is that $139 for a dual or single?  I wonder what a 5 head will run?  Maybe it would be better all around to get a dual head and then add heads later so that they probably don't get caught in the duty bin.  But I have low confidence in PRUSA to get 'spare' heads out anytime soon.  Or just buy third party heads.  So far we just have 1.75 extruders.  I imagine that any other heads from Prusa will be a 50:50 for Xmas 2024...

What is Prusa's #1 product?  Anticipation...

But then they'd have to hire premises for unpacking and redispatch, and local staff to do it and ...  there go all the savings.

Cheerio,

How do Bambu Lab etc manage it? Stop making excuses. Prusa need to shape up fast else they are dead. They’ll be a filament supplier and have a slicer which likely others will take over

They do this, and you just have to order from Printed Solid.  That being said, you will also have to wait until they have them in stock.

I never said they were.  I way indicating Prusa currently sends printers to the US that can be purchased without going through the current logisitics process.  You just have to buy them from the US vendor - Printed Solid.

So, let’s look at this:

1. does not seem that the chorus of cancelation threats have manifested to an empty backlog.

2. PrusaSlicer is open source so others can use it within the license terms.  And while some have taken it over in terms of using it and either just putting a “skin” without attribution to the underlying code base or taking the open source and declining to release their mods per the license agreements.  So those firms should not be trusted.

No issue.  I was the person that brought up Printed Solid, so it sure looked like it was.

RE: Unofficial Prusa XL Waiting Thread

Let me count the reasons:

  1.  At current production rates, it would probably take more than a month to fill a container load specific for US (or North American) customers.
  2. They currently have no North American logistics presence. Printed Solid is a reseller for filament, accessories, & printers for education only.
  3. The cost to setup North American logistics operations is probably not warranted for the current production volume, & would eat into any expected cost benefit.
  4. Container shipping would only reduce the per-unit cost of shipping, not the duties. As mentioned above, those shipping cost savings would be negated by the additional logistics cost.
  5. The only way to get at reducing duties would be for a North American reseller to be involved. At this moment, Printed Solid is not equipped for that. And that doesn't eliminate duties - it only reduces them. The cost of setting up & having a reseller in the mix negates any possible benefit.

Because they don't have enough printers to fill a container.  It would mean that, for example, all American customers would have to wait until a container load of American orders got to the top of the queue.  That could be 6 months.  And that would only save a bit on shipping, it would still have to be shipped across the U.S. to your home.  It also wouldn't save anything on import duties, they'd still have to be paid and included in the price (and possibly state sales tax too).
