The XL print quality concern

From what I've seen here (ERRF) the print quality of XL is surprisingly bad. I understand it's a pre-production units, however, what I don't understand is that event implies to proudly demonstrate capabilities of upcoming tech and Prusa XL was demonstrating that?! I bet it was doing PLA print, the easiest material to print out there. I pre-orderd XL hoping I could get a decent carbon-filled PC prints out of it. But now I'm uncertain. Has anyone seen over other non-pla prints with XL? Or maybe someone knows something that can negate my fears?

Thanks

I wouldn't put much weight into a pre-production unit.

TBH. it's something that is a little unsettling for me too. Hopefully to a large extent accuracy will be refined via software but I assume by the nature of a larger build, inherent belts (and longer belts) this may be less dimensionally accurate compared to the MK3's I'm familiar with. I've pre-ordered the 5 head and whilst excited for the potential exploration of mixed material prints, I'm slightly concerned that this is more aligned to the PLA cosplay audience. The build volume is tall but I'm probably not going to be able to realise that in many materials other than PLA/PETG etc without significant distortion. Noted that a hood is being developed but we are still only seeing the draft shield.... going to be interesting to access the high level build plate without dumping all the internal heat (air) unless I get a bigger house!

Defiantly keen to see some demonstrations push capability of what it can achieve. Incidentally, kind of surprised that the cycloidal gearbox is still on the pre-order page... was this just engineering overkill, marketing sounded great but software probably able to eliminate necessity/complexity. Cycloidal/harmonic amazing engineering but for extruding plastics...?

I would like to hear from you guys, what you think about the XL having (or better not having) some of the more complicated printing problems, like:

- VFA, caused by motor vibration:

- The issue, I forgot the name of, of the uneven gripping of the filament by the gears (I think in the XL with the big drive gear that should be avoided, shouldn't it?

- ...

RE:

In regards to the XL machine at ERRF, this was covered on social media already.

So it was almost a pre beta unit. As it was also announced on social media, XL beta test units were sent out, and if there is a question as far as things being released, that was covered in this reply and others who responded.

Now to try and be as fair as possible. I can understand peoples questions and all. The only answer I can tell you from my own personal experience is to wait and see with the end result (personally I believe you are going to be surprised). If you have any major concerns, depending on your position in the que (if you already have placed an order), you can wait for the end results, see the results of the testing and the production model and then make a reasonable decision if you want to still hold your order / place one, or request a refund.

Also to try and answer a couple of questions about my comment.
1). Sorry it's a closed beta and openings are already full.
2). There are NDA contracts signed, so trying to get more info about the tests isn't going to work.

I hope this answers some concerns.
