RE: Prusa Delays

As long as they provide it later, I will be fine with delaying the other heads.  I want it to work.

1/5 the printer, 1/5 the price?

If you honestly think that the XL with one head is 1/5 of the value or printer, you are out of your mind.  You have to be jesting.

A little, but not really.   Frankly, with only one head, it isn’t worth much more than a MK3S.  Maybe less than a Mk3s with an MMU2, that works.  There are big printing area printers out there with a single head.  One head would be a complete failure.  Two would be better, but three would actually show if the system works.

It is a considerably larger core-xy printer than the MK3s. No way that it would be worth less than an Mk3+, even with MMU. If you know larger printer you know that decent ones cost substantially more than an MK3+s.

Of course if Prusa gave up on the tool changer that would be a massive failure to deliver. We are not talking about that however, are we? We are talking about a delay.

Mk3s MMU2s, Voron 0.1, Voron 2.4

Based on the diversity of products he discussed, I suspect he is not sponsored by anyone product.  The XL looks and sounds promising.

YouTube has settings for closed captioning that can also translate to English.

RE: Prusa Delays

Here is what I'm expecting from Prusa and the XL:

  1. I bought the XL knowing full well that this is a new product and I expected delay's (Supply Chain issues or due to Prusa's Exuberince ). I was not expecting a 1 year delay, I'm disappointed but not surprised.  But with feedback from my Computer Networking vendors they are Quoting 12 to 18 Month Delivery on products, supply chain issues appear to be real. But if my XL is delayed by a few weeks or months I'll be happily reading reviews gathering information as a informed consumer.
  2. I bought the XL knowing the device that had some new innovative technology (Segmented bed, Nextruder, etc). Others have multiple tool heads but this tech is new to Prusa. As with any innovative tech I expected some technology not to work out. Cycloidal Drive is a good example. At least Prusa nixed the Cycloidal drive before production. But I expect some issues will pop up with me being an early adopter.
  3. 3d Printing is not my business but my hobby. Before the XL announcement I was going to build a Voron. I was looking forward to the Challenge of building the Voron (Because I'm a geek). But if I purchased a Voron all support would be on me. But seeing the XL I saw an innovative machine with features the Voron did not have. Additionally with the XL all the support would not be on me. However I expect there to be issues with the early XL's (Like buying the First Car on the Line). But the XL will be my hobby machine. I will deal with the issues with Prusa's assistance or Mod's if needed. Just like I put a Revo on my MK3 . Most importantly I will look forward every day to working with my with my XL just like I would with a Voron.
  4. If you need the XL for bussiness production it may not be ready yet. Will it be in a 6 months or a year, maybe. If you need a printer by this Christmas the XL is not for you. If you need the deposit to buy another printer you can get a refund. But at least I have only risked (In Theory) my deposit.
  5. Unlike many kickstarter campaigns where you can loose full price you paid. Some Kickstarters (Bamboo, Creality, etc) have proven they can be trusted. The risk with Kickstarter is to know what companies to trust. I trust Prusa to deliver, but unlike Kickstarter they only asked for a deposit. However, I am taking a risk buying the first XL off the line and not waiting a few months. This is my technology risk, time risk and financial risk. But I accept that risk by putting my money where my mouth is. Same as I trust the Voron community would not let me fail if I built a Voron and I don't believe Prusa will let me down either. This Prusa trust is based on my experience with the Prusa MK3 and the Prusa Mini. Both fine machines (But not Perfect) and have not  let me down.

This are my opinions on the XL. Your opinions may and probably will differ. I respect your  opinions and please respect mine.

P.S. If Prusa sends me a box of XL parts (Like the Voron) I would be ecstatic (I'm weird like that :). But send me the Wire Harness pre-made.. I'm not crazy 🙂

Another one, also german. They're not saying anything interesting though.

Close-ups from all sides, control panel & draft shield (but not the interior), toolchanger demo.

Why do YT links with start times not work here? Last video: Prusa XL starts at 10:45.

Thanks for the link @ntdesign, good video.
Though I'm very disappointed that he claims the accordion style enclosure will not be ready to go at launch. For at printer this size, budget and aim at multi materials, it should be ready at day one if not even equipped as standard. And lets be real, if Prusa say the enclosure will be released after a bunch of people have their XLs, it'll be another year.

This statement is conjecture.  You can do plenty without the enclosure. To be honest, I will probably make my own anyway.  The accordion does not seem to be something I want.  I prefer a hard enclosure which i know Prusa is working on, but why wait.

My interpretation so far is that the enclosure will be accordion plus a cap on top...
Of course it would be easy to add walls/doors to this design.

RE: Prusa Delays

You might be right.  A few months ago, that question was asked on a vlog presentation, and the impression I got was that was not decided yet.  I think they are still looking at options.  We will know when they release it.  I have not seen the accordion, but I would think it is not very durable compared to a full enclosure.

Being someone who tends to always bash their hand against (closed) transparent doors, I kinda like how you can have it completely out of the way if not needed (also good for cleaning out the interior). On the bad side, you can't see inside. But a camera might fix that. I'm hoping for a molded, somewhat flexible and very lightweight cap. Inflatable would be cool for stashing it when not needed, but this won't happen.

Huh. I was expecting tool changing to be quite a bit quicker. Overall looking alright though - hopefully they do indeed start shipping relatively soon.

RE: Prusa Delays

I think it was printing slow because it’s a convention. They would rather have the printer running during the entire event instead of constantly setting up a new print. Also, they don’t want people sticking their hands into the machine while it’s moving fast, damaging the printer and hurting themselves.  I think the XL will be somewhat slower than Voron 2.4.  Over time and firmware updates, it will improve.

After my frustrations with an MMU and a Palette, speed is the last thing on my mind.… I want reliability, not baby sitting.
