RE:

I don’t know if anyone in this thread is in the Facebook group called “Prusa XL users”.  It’s a dumb name since no one has it yet.  If some of you think this thread is vitriolic, you haven’t seen anything like that cesspool.

Anyway, there are group members who are at Formnext and they are hearing things at the Prusa booth.  They overheard that the XL might just ship with one head initially, with the remaining parts to follow and supply conditions improve.  I actually predicted that earlier in this forum.  I’m cool with it as long as it comes with a detailed manual to install the reaming components.

Another thing overheard was that Josef himself said “that it would probably take around 6 months to fullfill the pre-orders from the first 2 minutes.”  It could be Josef speaking in gest, but we don’t know.

The XL is also being aimed at the B2B customer base instead of B2C.  Now I’m just speculating, it may indicate a future price increase, or Prusa justifying its current price especially with competition heating up.

I ordered a BambuLabs Carbon today.  I will still buy the Xl when it comes out.  Mine should ship in 4-6 weeks.

Please post a review of your Bambhu printer after you put it through its paces, or at least to the review if you don't want to post it here.

I will.  I am a true critic so where it is a Prusa or a Bambu, I will be honest.  I have had my challenges with my Prusas but they much better than Creality, BIQU, or Anycubic.

Yes please keep us posted on this Bambu purchase. Does anyone have lead times on this printer?

As far as I am aware they are still fulfilling the Kickstarter pledges.  They are taking pre-orders on their website with a very small non-refundable deposit ($20 plus estimated shipping).  They will contact the customers when the units are ready to ship and the customer has 3 days to pay in full.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. My primary interest in the XL is the tool changing capability.  I’m uneasy taking only a partial machine.  It’s like taking delivery of a new car with some of the chips still missing.  I’ll wait until Prusa decides to address this officially before getting myself worked up about it.

I will take what they ship but I want a 5 head print with tool changing as soon as it is available,

Updtaes on their blog. I believe kickstarter units are delivered and people are also receiving their pre-order units. They've done an amazing logistics job with this to be fair to them.

I'm exactly the same. The XL was ordered with specific use cases in mine and they all require multiple heads. It's speculation currently so will wait until official updates say what's happening.

I ordered a Bambu.  Mostly to tinker and provider an honest assessment of what it is and is not and if the printer is an able competitor to the XL or Mk3S. After reading a lot, I do not think it is a competitor to either.  It is a different animal altogether.  I will let you know when I receive my printer and finish my review.

Chat about any other printer should be moved to another thread, it’s already been said here that printers like the X1C are not comparable to the XL just a new shiny product on the market.

I see there are some clips of the XL printing in both single and multi tool head state on the social channels from NextForm…

RE: Prusa Delays

I’m going to have to get a very good explanation as to why only one head is going to ship at launch.  I’ve recently had some prints where it would be nice to have a bigger than a mark 3 foot print, but I’m not really getting this printer because it’s inherently larger. I’m getting it for the head changing capability. So I think Prusa better prioritize that instead of shipping with just one head that they actually run their order base through and do some kind of ordered heads Minus a hold back. So that if you ordered five heads you get at least two. To me that would be the minimum. It is especially disappointing and that they were very adamant from the beginning that you’d be able to add more heads when it came time to order. This is the exact opposite of that.

after all of the problems with the multi material for the mark three, it’s on them to prove that this multi material system actually works. I’d rather see some 3+ heads systems go out and get independently vetted before I take a single head version with a promise that eventually I’ll get more heads, and that they’ll work. Otherwise I’m sitting on a very expensive slightly larger single head machine.

they also have to publish some kind of guideline for order number and shipping date. At the very least they have to lay out some kind of guide post as to when we might see our printers.

In fact I’ll make it easier for them. If they are only going to ship a single head, I’ll delay my order until they can get me at least three heads. If they try to force me to take a single head machine I’ll cancel my order.

I’d cancel my order too. The cynic in me would think that they’d be doing that in order to get money in and buy even more time to produce components. I’d rather go to the back of the queue and have a better understanding of how the XL performs in the real world.

I'm glad I'm day 2 preorder. Gives me 6 months to see how the XL actually performs, and, hopefully gives Prusa time to clear their mess and ship what is expected, not an incomplete thing. My X1C is treating me just fine in the meantime, and I joined the list for the P1P.

When I ordered, I ordered a single head and assembled.  I will change that when mine is ready to ship even if I have to wait.  I will wait for a 5 head and semi-assembled.  I want to build as much as I can myself.

Assembled and incomplete would be a complete waste of time and money. I always like to assemble the printers because you’re going to have to do maintenance anyway and that way I feel much more comfortable tearing apart and reassembling the printers

RE: Prusa Delays

People are saying that the printers will initially ship with only one head, I would call it incomplete. If you are the kind of person that needs an assembled printer and doesn’t want to assemble it that would kind of defeat the purpose. I know with the Mk3 that I ended up having to rebuild the Extruder/hot end at least twice for revisions in the first few months. Some of that may have been related to the MMU that wasn’t available at launch. I also seem to remember having to do some tweak work on the mini after it launched., Even outside of the “plus“.

I also expected have the printer by now and assemble it over Thanksgiving or Xmas holidays…
