RE:

For me personally I’d rather they were a little more open now. You’d think they were launching the cure to world peace… It’s a 3D printer and it would be great to get some proper communication as to what’s going on? where are we all sitting in the pre order list and just generally get some more info about this printer we are buying into the open? I feel a little blind about what I’m buying cos everything is so vague. This was ok months back on build up and all the hype etc but is starting to become questionable. It’s too quiet and I feel like Prusa for me haven’t learnt enough lessons from previous launches…

The Problem i see is  the big NDA.
They ship maybe in March ( who knows -  they dont mind if we want an answer we are just  the money pool )- but  what quality can i await? What speed is possible ?

They  celebrate themselves with prints on prusable etc. but the just hide the fact that they FAIL BIG at the XL release.
Bambu is open to the customer just like no other company i know in the 3d printer world... but prusa? Jospeh Prusa in the MysterieMachine Automobile 😀

RE: Prusa Delays

I'm looking at past few comments and I am really thinking that this whole saga could have gone different route:

What if Prusa would have released the XL printer and shipped first 20 units and just stated that other units are on back order and delayed due to problems with supply chain. Would this be a more favourable position you guys would like to find yourself in?

I mean, I understand the frustration. I have placed my order on the day one. I would really have use for the XL right now. I also have options to order alternative brand, although for the size for a much higher price...

My point is, yes Prusa could have given us more information. Prusa could have released few units and put a backorder on every other order... But they didn't. Let's be patient just a little bit longer. It took us very long time to reach where we are now and I'm positive we will receive some news soon.

Prusa Live is happening at 3:00PM EST today.  Hopefully we will find out more info.  As of right now, I think the multi-head XL will take longer to ship. Beta testers will receive their units in March, and customers in May.  I think it will ship sometime during Q3.  The multi-head significantly more moving parts.  Lots of room for error.

I'm ready to move on from my trusty MK3s. I simply need a faster printer with a bigger build volume. I look at all the corexy printers like the rat rig, voron, vzbot, bambu etc...and they are all tempting! I am waiting patiently to see the results of the prusa xl to make a decision. Ive preordered a dual head prusa xl, I like the features it offer, is there any reason to believe it would be not as fast as any other CoreXY?

There is. It is bigger than most and included the more complex tool changer (moving mass). And prusa said that they will not enter the speed race. Speed is one of my concerts, too. But a lot faster than MK3 would already be enough for me, no need for >300mm/s but around 200mm/s would be super cool.

Update from Prusalive Chat:

"Mikolas Zuza: That's why I'm commeting here before hand, so you don't expect big XL updates in this stream. There isn't really much to update on, everything is currently going exactly as Jo said in the last video."

Sooooo.... we can just wait ... again ... and a again ... JO will be not there at Prusalive....

RE: Prusa Delays

I know February is a short month, and not a lot of time to get evaluations done and back. But the total lack of feedback kind of makes me think that they’re having some trouble. If everything was going well, they’d say that and they chose some pictures of some printed stuff. Haven’t watch the chat yet, is the production 2.6 version of Prusa slicer out yet? They’ve been flapping their gums about that forever too.

at this point, I think there’s only a 75% chance that my five head model will be up and running correctly by this time next year.

The most important news was the snippet at 32.00 when JP said they were celebrating parts deliveries that were ordered two years ago - and that everything is on track.

I don't know when you ordered yours, I missed the announcement so didn't order mine until the second week. I guess I'll be reorganising my workspace for the newcomer in the autumn.

Cheerio,

If they went this way  it would be better. Because: We know, Speed, techn issues, Slicer performance, quality etc. etc. ...
Now we all get Units where everyone knows nothing so far....  u understand?
If they´ll ship in March we dont have answers and they need to delivery fast.
Same is with the  windshield - when does it come? when can i print material which need the shield?
Too many questions are open for a release in 1 Month.... sorry to say that :<

RE:

A 2-head Prusa XL will give you so much more possibilities than any other single head printer.

  • Print with soluble support materials without contaminating your main filament
  • Print the same material with two different nozzle sizes!
0.4 for areas where you need details, 0.8 or bigger where you do not need fine resolution ....
That will speed up your prints, even without the crazy fast head movements of other printers
  • Freedom to run any V6 nozzle you want (hardened, Diamond, Tungsten, Bondtech CHT... ),
while at the competition (Bambus) you are limited to their proprietary nozzles
  • High quality linear steel rails vs proprietary carbon rods prone to wear on Bambu
  • Expect to be able to use a XL for many years. For the Bambu printers many vital proprietary spare parts are NOT available.

And one important thing: Sell your MK3S only when you are sure that you are happy with your successor printer ....

RE: Prusa Delays

Well, raw head speed is an important factor, I think it’s pretty apparent that the nozzle, the slicing, and the ability of the hot end, to melt a volume of material, or perhaps the real drivers of “speed”.

I guess some people have their printers, running near constantly and faster speed means more throughput, and perhaps a an actual financial impact on their operations. As a hobbyist, I’d like speed also, but the reality is my printers sit idle most of the time. Of course, when I’m working on a project sometimes I’ll have all three churning and burning nearly straight for a week in different iterations and trying to get a more complex project done. So faster friends speeds would be better. But the majority of the things I print are single items that take less than four hours. Granted, if these are going to be that much bigger, faster, speeds, slicing, nozzles, material, throughput, all start to become important.

RE:

Im going on a whim here, but as there still isn't news from Feb's roundup, I'm guessing there are issues coming up with the Betas. And I understand why, the corexy is so much more complex than a what they previously work with. The more parts, the more variables, the harder it'll be to achieve print quality even on par with a MK3 that has been tuned in for a decade. -which is what the customer will be expecting right?

While building my Voron (don't label me as a Voron fan boy lol but they are impressive), finding a tuning guide by Ellis, put so much into perspective.  Its a short read - https://ellis3dp.com/Print-Tuning-Guide/articles/setting_expectations.html . But making and tuning a corexy at the HQ is one thing, tuning that with all the features... then packing up 100 for Betas to test that will have a range of prior experience with FFF machines and for them to expect the print quality of a traditional printer is a tall order. -without mentioning the backlog of delayed parts-
Anyway, this isn't a post sticking up for Prusa but I can understand why there will be further delays.

RE: Prusa Delays

I was kind of disappointed when they said that nothing has changed and they’re still on track from the last blog post. If That’s true just reiterate what’s in the blog post, say it’s from the blog post, so that it doesn’t seem like you’re trying to pass off old news as new news. Don’t make us go back and dig it up. Trying to remember what you said 30 days ago.

whenever somebody says things are going fine, you know that they aren’t. I’ve been married over 20 years it only took me 19 to figure that out.

It is curious why it is taking so long. Prusa had Core XY printers in their print farm which they showed in Oct 2021. 5 or so guys from DJI have just shipped (I'm guessing) about 10,000 bambulabs core xy printers in the past year. Seems like Creality have created another cartload of models.. the Ender 6 is corexy.. Wonder if it is a resource issue.. just not enough designer/engineer types to support their line and create new.  Or maybe some of the design decisions just didn't work out. Sometimes it is just better to get a limited number of devices out.. take your lumps and iterate quickly.

RE: Prusa Delays

Are we agreed? Not a single word about the Prusa XL in Prusa Live #50.

I must admit, I no longer enjoy these lives like I used to. The lack of information about the XL feels like a personal insult to me.

Looking back, when they couldn't even provide the printer's external dimensions during a live, it says a lot.
