In house (closed source?) hot-end and other questions before to place an pre-order

First of all: is this forum monitored by Prusa? Because I see no answer to anyone but from other users.

Anyway: I would like to place an order but on faith is a bit difficult.

Starting with the hot-end specifications: as I'm a professional and I print CF composite too so my questions are:

  1. hot-end max temp
  2. bed max temp
  3. nozzle material capabilities and/or availability of hardened ones (as they developed they own version with E3D, seems to me a big problem in terms of nozzle development due to Prusa market base not as wide as an hot-end manufacturer)

These are characteristics that must be indubitably known presently (and don't talk about supply chain shortages because this is an in house development 😉 )

Maintenance: I've no memory to have eared or read any about the maintenance needed for the head change mechanism. If it is in the ball park of the E3D it could be a real pain to maintain (please have a look to the E3D documentation about their system).

No, Prusa employees do not commonly respond in these forums. It is primarily other users to my knowledge. 

My take on the XL is that it is the best thing to wait and see until the first examples are out there in the wild and reviews available. And then maybe wait a little bit longer until first experiences with heavy use over a certain period is available.  I'd say that especially for people who need a machine for commercial use rather than as an expensive hobbyist tool.

We agree as we are waiting to see the feed back from user's for awhile. Not going to spend all the money if we are going to have tweak it all the time to get it to run like the MMU2s. I found it crazy that we spent over 1500 dollars and have to play with the printer all the time to get it to work then have to down load other parts and print them to make it work the way it should of in the first place. Filament is one of the biggest issues as you seem to have to weak each one of them. I know we are some what new to all this but this is just crazy.

Yes, the MMU is a brave decision for commercial use I'd say, it is a great hobbyist tool though given that with 300 EUR it is very affordable and opens up at lot of possibilities. One should really set up certain well working brands and types of filament for the MMU and stick to them if reliability is the priority. When dialed in well, the MMU does work fairly reliable with such tested filaments. There can be the occasional jam every few thousand changes then but nothing serious. 

More problematic in my opinion are probably the long printing times and huge material waste for all-in multicolour prints. Where the MMU is however very handy I think is for flat surface sign plates or also utility boxes with labellings . Those only need a few layers of colour changes which would be very bothersome manually but barely challenge a dialed in MMU nor cause that much waste either.

I can appreciate your hesitancy to order if you don't know whether the range of specs will meet your needs. For my part, the stated features will allow me to print some commercial items that I'm currently doing on smaller Prusas, but perhaps better & more efficiently with the multiple heads, & in single pieces that are now done in multiples post-assembly. I also have some product ideas that could take advantage of soluble supports. If hardened nozzles & higher temperature capabilities become available, that's additional benefit for me, but not must-have items yet.
