Can you use a smaller flexplate?
Hello,
As the printer only does the first layer height calibration in the area that you are printing, can you use a much smaller flexplate (for example one of the size of the MK3/4) to print on? Did somebody already try it? I'm curious whether it is possible or not. Thanks!
RE: Can you use a smaller flexplate?
I've tried this with an unused build sheet sized for a CR-10S and it works just fine. You just need to be absolutely sure the printer won't try to bed level outside of the plate (I used it with very conservatively small models so there was no chance of that). I can see Prusa not "supporting" or recommending this but there's nothing the printer does now that prevents it from working.
I guess there could be some heating behavior that's less efficient as the firmware assumes there will be some steel plate where there is none...
