PrusaLink: Pi4+MK3S over USB - Error: "Firmware is not up to date, please update it"
Apologies if this was asked and answered elsewhere, but I've just been been unable to find a solution for my issue.
Details:
- MK3S running 3.12.2
- Raspberry Pi 4 running PrusaLink (unable to see a version number, but using version downloaded today from the "PrusaLink and Prusa Connect setup for MK3/S/+" Guide
- Raspberry Pi is connected to the printer via USB.
- RPi port is turned on in the printer settings
I am able to connect to the raspberry pi over the network and can see the PrusaLink Configuration Wizard screen. However under the picture block (which is missing it's image), there is the word "Unknown" and then a line stating "Firmware is not up to date, please update it!"
I have tried waiting a long time, and have tried power-cycling both the raspberry pi and printer multiple times.
I never see any mention of a network address or anything new on the printer display, and I don' t see a firmware version newer than 3.12.2 that I can update to.
Would anyone happen to have any thoughts on this?
Thanks

Hi, this is normal. 0.6.1 requires manual configuration of the USB port. Please try the 0.7.0 RC3 https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Link/releases/tag/0.7.0rc3
That one should auto-detect your printer and hopefully work out of the box.
Hi Tojik, thank you very much for the help, I was able to bring my printer online with PrusaLink and Prusa Connect now.
Some additional info:
I believe 0.7.0 RC3 is what ultimately solved my issue, but I did discover there was another problem.
The step 13 of the PrusaLink setup guide had instructed me to set the RPi port to [On]. I did that yesterday with the older version of PrusaLink, and cycled the setting a few times for troubleshooting and obviously never got things working.
Tonight when I installed 0.7.0 RC3 I was still getting connectivity errors in the PrusaLink wizard. After trying some power-cycles, I decided to try cycling the RPi Port setting again, I noticed the printer beep and display an ip address as soon as I turned the RPi port setting [Off].
After researching a little more online, I realized that it appears that setting should only be turned on when using the hardwired Raspberry Pi Zero W. That distinction was unclear in the instructions, as I thought the RPi Port option was actually turning on the USB port. Just wanted to call that out in case anyone makes the same oversight.
Thanks again for the quick help! : )

I have the same issue. I had 3.10.x on my Mk3s.
I dd'd an image of prusalink to an SD card. No network. Oh yeah, I didn't setup the WiFi. I plugged in an ethernet cable and setup worked without issue.
My RPi Camera even worked (albeit upside down). I printed a test file, it was perfect.
I realised that if I had used the RPiImager, I could have setup WiFI. I did that on another SD card and popped it in.
This time the setup wizard refused to proceed until I updated the firmware. I did. It then demanded a thermal calibration. I did.
Now the wizard still refuses to proceed without a firmware update even though it's on the latest listed on Prusa's website.
Multiple reboots of both Pi and Prusa had no effect.
I put the previous SD Card (that was working) back in but now PrusaConnect says the printer is offline and the RPi's webpage says it cannot connect with the Printer.
I put the OctoPrint SD card back in and it still works perfectly.

Oh yeah, mine is an RPi 3b. So also attached via USB, not an internal Zero just like the OP. That seems relevant.

Sorry I forgot to mention, I was on 0.7.0rc3.

Hi, sorry, don't know what's wrong with yours. If you can get to the logs, that might help me with figuring stuff out.
From my experience, when it first boots it at least resets the printer even if nothing else should happen. I'm thrown off by octoprint being totally fine.
Can you send me a log from the one that at least lets you in the web ui? It's under the settings page. I'm interested in the syslog file

I'll set this back up this weekend and grab some logs.
I was working perfectly well on 0.7.0rc when my printer was on the older firmware. After the update, the printer seems to no longer see the RPi.
Even with a new SD card with a fresh flash of 0.7.0rc3 (and a shutdown and reboot) the printer does not show the IP address of the RPi on the LCD.
It did with the previous firmware, 3.10.something.
Perhaps a red herring but that's what's happened on mine.

Good news on my side as well.
I've not completely sorted it out yet but it's the RPi Imager doing something unexpected. Despite not setting the 'Enable SSH' or 'Set username' it's doing something goofy to the SD card.
If I dd the image out, it works as expected.
I'll dig in more at the weekend.

7.0 works for me with Raspberry Pi 3VB.
The PrusaLink image link in the instructions for the Mk3SP does not work with the RPi 3. The instructions seem tailored for the Zero...but i can't get one where im located so until i do, using the RPi 3.

Hi, another guide is in the works. It goes through the setup process for the regular non zero raspi

Great. Thank you.
