RE: New XL and connecting to Prusa Connect

Are you by any chance using static ip set on your printer?

There is a problem handling files with special characters in them, so it might be that. Honestly not sure, did not create that code

I am on 4.7.2  dual toolhead XL.  I have tried the updating the settings as suggest  previously, but the error continues.  For status is just displays "no config".  I can access and use PrusaLink.... but would really like to be able to use Prusa Connect.

So getting the code fails every time. Welp, we just beefed up the server, so it might start working now. If not, again, what is your network setup? I guess you got dhcp mode, not static.

I'll try it with no print files, I didn't think that would matter.  I'm using the original USB stick that came with it, and it has the wifi credentials in there too.  The error is the same as others have gotten "Registration failed. Likely a network error. Try again later."

First off only put

[service::connect]

hostname=buddy-a.connect.prusa3d.com

tls=True

port=443

In the file nothing else then make sure it's named prusa_printer_settings.ini and make sure it'd got .ini  file not txt file sometimes windows still sets it to txt file then go settings -> system -> load settings from file in the printer

Please help me out by downloading a model it's free and easy but really helps me out https://www.printables.com/@Hello_474427/models

I tried it again when I got home tonight, and this time it went thru without an issue?  My a hiccup with the prusa servers last nite?

It definitely might be that. Are you by any chance far from Europe?

I'm in the US and this has been failing for several days straight.  I still need to investigate it a bit more.

Well, we also have some ideas why this is happening, just unable to change things that fast. In the meantime, sorry about the disruptions

Just for your knowledge, I'm also in the US.

I too am in the US, with a new dual head XL, able to get prusalink working, but trying all the workarounds, getting the same network message. Hopefully octaprint is fixed soon since i prefer that.

Thank you for the info. I think OctoPrint support is being worked on, but there's so much stuff on fire lately, I cannot guarantee what order will the tasks get finished in

I realize one data point might not matter much, but having been an octoprint user for MANY years, I would greatly prefer the prusa connect option, as it better allows for multiple printers, doesn't rely on additional hardware, and focuses more on basic features rather than a kitchen sink that mostly works sometimes.  Additionally, I would be willing to pay a small monthly/yearly fee for a 'pro' or 'advanced' feature-set if this somehow offsets development costs.

You buy one of the most expensive printers and then they charge you that wouldn't be cool

I would pay extra money for an ADVANCED feature-set for a software service that's complimentary to the hardware that I paid for...  I bought a printer, I didn't expect to get an octoprint solution, printer management tool, etc.  The fact you get a slicer with it is even a bonus!  Buy a CNC machine and you need to spend several thousand dollars for CAM software just to run the thing.  For most people, the free tools would be fine, but I'd personally be willing to pay MORE to ensure I have the tools I need and don't have to mess with octoprint.

Neither works for me right now sooo its more like which ever one works first. I will try prusa link, in the meantime, but I heard transfer time is very long. USB exporting loading might be faster? (I only have one other Prusa an MK3 with octaprint, and that works, I just want the same level of hit print and go).

RE: New XL and connecting to Prusa Connect

I'm on an XL Dual, version 4.7.2, Wifi from the US.  Tried both static ip and DHCP with the above solution and no luck.  I can get to PrusaLink just fine and from my network I can hit the '/p/register' endpoint at buddy-a.connect.prusa3d.com from a machine on my network but the response time is in the range of 10+ seconds.  I'm not sure what type of timeout the firmware is using but that could be part of the problem.

RE:

Same problem here (EU). After the .ini trick I can see it tries to resolve DNS for buddy-a.connect.prusa3d.com (34.159.33.52) but my firewall does not see any TCP/UDP packet after the DNS request.

Also when checking that URL + /p/register as mentioned here I get a Certificate error (Self Signed by Prusa). Not the best idea for a public service 😉

Yea, if we leak the keys, we're kinda screwed right, but then that's ture regardless of whether we self sign? IDK, please explain, if you know
I did not work on buddy networking, so idk what they went through regarding this.

Sooo, does it not send anything after the DNS resolves the IP?

RE: New XL and connecting to Prusa Connect

Difference is everybody could validate a public certificate, only you can verify a Prusa Certificate. I'm not an expert, but remote access to a machine should be behind the highest grade of publicly accepted security. But right now I'm not focussed on that 😉

That's correct, the Stock XL which upgraded itself to 4.7.2. since it was found on the included USB-stick does not want to connect. Not even after I load the .ini file.
I can see DNS lookup but that's all. pfTop does not show any traffic outside beyond the DNS lookup.

Good news though. Because I had to wait for the last 3 toolheads to get delivered I decided to do a full factory reset (using the same USB firmware) after adding them. This way I would be sure everything is calibrated the way it should be.

And guess was. After setup was finished, loading wifi settings from .ini. Hit the Prusa Connect button, tada, QR code. Got it online in 2 minutes.

RE: New XL and connecting to Prusa Connect

Thanks for that info, sorry, i am not the best at troubleshooting buddy printer connect problems. I am overextended on the forum as I am the only one that responds here. I should only answer MK3 PrusaLink topics but then I'd feel weird about all the unanswered ones. Glad you got it to work
