Cannot set the IP adress of the printer (MK4)
Hi all!
Like mentioned in the topic, I cannot set the IP adress of the printer (MK4) for use in in the LAN with Prusa Link.
The default IP adress, -mask, and -gateway is 0.0.0.0 / N.V., shown on the screen of the printer.
As shown in the help section for Prusa link. I started with step 7, since I am NOT using WiFi.
- I established the wired ethernet connection and checked if the light are working on the RJ45 socket.
- I updated the latest firmware 5.1.2.
- I used the prusa_printer_settings.ini from github to create the network specific .ini file with specific IP4 adress, -mask, and -gateway
- I checked the created .ini file for typing errors and wether all text is written in one line.
- I reboot the printer with the .ini file in the root directory oft he USB. The USB was not removed during reboot.
The printer read the change from the file from DHCP to static, but ignored all other (adress, -mask, and -gateway) information.
What am I doing wrong, what could be the problem?
I would be glad if someone could help.
Best regards
Alexander
RE:
can you provide the config you have?
also what parameters do you have on your computer connected to the same network?
and finally, why can't you use DHCP and setting static IP assignment for the MAC address that printer has?

RE: Cannot set the IP adress of the printer (MK4)
Hi KaszpiR, thank for your reply.
Sorry, I cannot upload the file here, the forum wont let me do this. But it is basicaly the .ini file from github (link above) with changed IP adress, mask and gateway.
What exactly do you mean with parameters?
I cannot use DHCP with wired LAN, because of administrative restrictions we have with our LAN.
Thanks!
Alexander

Hi, the file might not be getting loaded in the "right way" To load static IP settings, you need to go to Settings -> System -> Load settings from file.
Also, please fill out the DNS servers. It should be in the first section. Without those you won't be able to use Connect.
If this still isn't working, you could thry to use DHCP and set the static ip on the router side.
RE: Cannot set the IP adress of the printer (MK4)
Ask your network admins to set static IP to the printer, just talk to them and they will ask some questions you should be able to provide.

oh, missed that limitation. Ups, sorry
RE:
Sounds like some syntax error in the file.. You’ll have to upload it here for people to look at.
If you are administratively restricted from DHCP, do you have permissions to use your specific static IP address.. (just assuming you are within an org with an IT admin somewhere). So two solutions..
You can give the MAC address of your ethernet card to the IT Admin and ask for a static address, and they usually can do that.. (your machine needs to be set to DHCP).
Or you can fix the syntax and the MK4 should use the static IP address.. Normally you can use the PING utility to test if your printer is attached properly, but I don’t think Prusa has fixed Ping on the mini/MK4/XL..
If you are using a static address that some other machine on the network is using, then some clients will throw an error and not use that IP address. Try pinging the addresss you want to use to see if another machine on the network replies.

RE: Cannot set the IP adress of the printer (MK4)
Hi again @ all.
It seems that the problem was that the chages from the .ini file were read from the printer, but were not displayed on the screen. After playing around with the Wifi connection the printer display suddenly also showed the information about ethernet IP adress, etc.
Thanks for your help.
